The diagnostic report for the check engine light was that there was a wiring problem. They determined that the wiring problem was a symptom of the underlying problem, replaced the defective wires and performed a tune-up. The car (18 year old Ford Explorer) is now running smoothly and getting better mileage than before.
BTW - we have been taking all of our vehicles to Jim's for several years and have consistently found that he won't charge for unnecessary services and always takes care of any problems that didn't get resolved immediately.

When the car starts now the belts squeal loudly for a while. The air conditioning belt squeals every time I turn it on. While driving the car, after I accelerate then go to cruising when I use gas, I get a thumping noise from the passenger side axle.
He had promised to call us when he had a steering wheel belt in. He never called.

I think they're the best out here in the country. They don't do no more than what you want them to do. And, I've been with them for 10 years. I highly recommend them. Also, the prices are reasonable and I trust them. I've never had a problem with them.

Excellent service. Once, I needed to leave my car for several hours but had to get down to St. Luke's for work. They offered to drop me off at the hospital. I've not had a single bad experience with any job they have done. Since I found Jim's Auto Service, I'm happy when I can say to friends when they ask, "Yes, I can give you the name of a great mechanic!"

My 1997 Ford Explorer wouldn't start so had it towed to Jim's. They got it to start properly; while it was there, they saw that the radiator was leaking fluid and found that it was cracked. Replaced the radiator the same day. They didn't charge me for getting the Explorer to start properly.
Jason (actual owner - there isn't a and quot;Jimand quot;) is one of the fairest mechanics I've found in a long time. He won't charge me for things that only take a couple of minutes to address and, on one occasion, sent me to a tire dealer for some brake work, explaining that he could do the work himself, but it would cost me less at a tire dealer.
His prices are very fair, he always gets the work done the same day if at all possible, and I can trust his problem diagnoses.
