generally been very pleased with the tradespeople I have used through Angie's
List. Hyde Park Plumbing didn?t live up to that example. While they were prompt
and courteous, I was concerned right away when two plumbers showed up to fix what I described over the phone as a leaky
faucet. This is usually a sign, and was in this case, you are going to be
overcharged. I was charged $300 for these guys spending about 45 minutes at my
house performing a few minor tasks. If you think that's a fair price, as they maintain, then they're your guys.
That said, they did follow up on a tricky issue for me on a part, so I'd give them a solid on that point.
Overall, my future advise to myself is to call a handyman first, most capable handymen can perform virtually any household plumbing repair you are likely to need, and almost certainly at a fraction of the price you will be charged by Hyde Park Plumbing.
"During our interaction with [Member Name Removed] there was a breakdown in communication. Some of it was on our part and some of it on his. As business owners, it was one of those scenarios we dread and do our best to avoid. As a policy, we always try to give up front pricing. Despite what Dale believes we do not charge more for having the two of us show up to your door, we charge by the job. This job however, continued to evolve as we were there, and this is where the poor communication started. We were first called to address a leak under a laundry room sink (which we located and repaired). If it had stopped there, Dale would have been charged our $75 service fee (which is only charged if we actually fix something), and we would have been on our way, but it did not. [Member Name Removed] kept saying “well, as long as you are here…” All included, we: Located and repaired a leak under a laundry room sink. Repositioned and secured an improperly installed outside hose bib. Inspected every fixture supply in the house for possible leaks (at [Member Name Removed]’s request). Disassembled, inspected and greased the seals in a garage sink faucet to stop a leak. Disassembled and worked on a shower valve to address the hot water limiter. Disassembled and inspected a kitchen faucet to find a defective part - which we were able to get free parts for (even though it was twelve years old and no longer under warranty), but only after spending 45 minutes on hold with the company’s customer service and sending three separate e-mails to the manufacturer, pro representative, and supplier showing detailed pictures and describing the problem. [Member Name Removed]’s claim that we only did a few minor tasks just isn’t true. In hind sight, we should have given [Member Name Removed] a new price every time a new job popped up, but we got caught up in addressing the issues as they arose and didn’t – for that we are sorry, but our pricing (considering everything we did) was not out of line for plumbers in Boise – it just wasn’t. [Member Name Removed] later informed us that the garage sink faucet that we worked on, was still dripping the next day. I can understand how this would be a source of frustration, especially after feeling like he paid too much. However, he failed to mention it to us for over two weeks. We told him that we always guarantee our work and would make it right or refunded him, but by then he wanted nothing to do with us. The one thing we ask of anyone who has an issue, is to just talk to us - we will make it right."
Let's face it, nobody likes to have a plumber come out to do work because it usually means that something went very wrong. Plus, there is nothing pleasant about the work they do.
Jeff is very professional and did a great job explaining the work he was going to do and why he thought it should be done. I have learned the hard way that you can pay for "cheap & fast" or you can pay for quality work done right the first time. Jeff does quality work the first time and you might pay a little more for it.
I also appreciated Jeff's experience with older North End Boise homes. I would definitely hire Jeff again in the future.
