Joe Wallace from Classic came on Weds morning. Understood what i wanted and took his measurements and said he would have a price to me by Thursday. The other four also took there own measurements and said they would have prices by weds or Thurs. All the prices were within $500. Only Classic and one other responded to my scope of work in there Quotes. The others were in my opinion unresponsive quotes as they were quoting what they wanted to do
Please note Classic floors was not the low price. Joe seemed to be a straight shooter and was knowledgeable.
I sent him an e-mail over the weekend to give me a call on Monday. When he called I told him to load the wood into the house, which he did on Weds. He and his men showed up at the appointed time on Monday, and his men proceeded to complete the work by Thursday noon. Joe showed up everyday to see how things were progressing.
There were Never any problems that weren't addressed immediately by his lead man.
Floors look great and it was a quality installation.

"[Member name removed] job was typical of the kind of work we do for homeowners. We go in remove existing floor ,prep sub-floor , remove and re-install base trim and then install new floor in chosen area. It's always good to have customers who respond to messages and are willing to meet at a convenient time for both of us. Thank you for the work , I hope we can work together again in the future. Respectfully Joe with Classic"
"Thanks for the kind words. We specialize in wood floor restoration and refinish with a patented dust containment system which keeps the overall project as clean as possible. Visqueen is put into place where needed to section off rooms that are not being worked on. Estimates are free and we use low VOC finishes that have a great appearance and long lasting wear. Thanks again Joe with Classic"
"Thank you for your kind words, we do our best to service our customers. The job was in the north end in Boise a very nice place to live I might add. We refinished the oak bed room and hallway and screened and coated the rest of the floor space. As for the communications , we've not only been out of our minds busy but I've had that nasty cold/flu bug that we all can't get rid of and when I get that sick my timing gets way off . This was a nice job for us thank you for the work. Joe Wallace Classic hardwood floors"
Joe kept me informed throughout the process and the work was professional. The floors turned out beautiful. Joe even helped me move my VERY heavy hutch out of, and then back into, the dining room to accommodate the installation of the new floors. I couldn't have done it without him. I love the floors and appreciate the care that Joe and his team took in installing and refinishing the floors (and keeping the rest of the house relatively clean throughout the process). I would definitely recommend him to anyone and, if needed, I would gladly use him again. Thanks Joe!
"[MEMBER] Was great to work with. We removed the old carpet and replaced it with new Maple flooring and new flush mount wood vents. The tie-in to the floor was in the door way which made for a nice transition form old to new. Matching old and new hardwood can be difficult in our area do to all the different mills that the local suppliers have bought from over the years. [MEMBERS] Floor was a good case in point. It was an older floor installed some years ago and knowing the right grade and area of the country it came from was important to the overall look. Thanks Deb for the work. Respectfully Joe with Classic"
"[member name removed] were very good people to work with. There floor was a challenge to work with, they have a 5 inch hand scraped Walnut floor. They didn't want the floor sanded to preserve the hand scraped look. There is a process available to clean and apply new finish to these type of floors, it works well and extends life to the floor. It is also possible to use this process on different types of floor including most Laminate floors. Respectfully Joe with Classic"
We had a great experience with this company. Joe from Classic Hardwood came out for an estimate and was very professional. All of his staff showed up on time and were also professional.
I would definitely recommend this company for any installation needs of hardwood you might have.
"[member name removed] has a Maple floor that had water damage about 5 years ago we repaired the damage and refinished the rest of the floor. She recently had another incident with water damage and called us to take care of the matter. She liked the fact we used Low Voc finishes that have worked well in her home for all these years and that she didn't have to move out of her home while we were doing the work. Keep in mind that everyone's level of sensitivity is different. Most people are able to work with the smell of these finishes. The other challenge to floors like these is to match the existing floor where new wood is required to replace the damaged area. While we are successful a large part of the time, sometimes the wood is no longer produced and we can only use what is available. Fortunately [member name removed] floor was a common Maple easy to match. Thanks [member name removed] your Awesome. Joe with Classic"
"[member name removed] had a Red Oak floor that had been lived on like most of our floors. It was time for some TLC so we sanded the floor to bare wood, trowel filled the floor with filler to fill the gaps. Sanded off the filler ,edged the floor, hand scraped the corners and buffed the floor with a multi dics attachment .We applied 1 water base seal coat and 2 water base finish coats. [member name removed] had his wife didn't need to be away from there home over night do to the low Voc's of the finish. While everyone's tolerance is different to smells, a large part of the time most people stay away form the house only 5 to 6 hours when the finish is drying. I often tell people to catch a pizza and a movie and come home . The first 24 hours is stocking feet only. Then shoes after 24 hours , furniture 72 hours after final coat to be followed by rugs at the end of 7 days. Classic uses water base finishes to preserve the natural beauty of the wood and for long lasting endurance. [member name removed] refinished his floor before selling his home along with some other improvements ,it sold shortly there after. [member name removed] and his wife were great customers thank you for your business. Respectfully Joe with Classic"
Competitive price, respectful and pleasant to work with, job well done.
QUOTE EXPERIENCE
Joe was on-time for the free estimate. He was pleasant and friendly. He asked enough questions to understand the work that needed to be done. He discussed options with me. He provided a written quote prior to leaving my home. Afterwards, I emailed follow-up questions to him, and he responded by calling me with answers. He also followed-up with me a few days later to see if I had other questions. He provided references when I requested them. His price was competitive.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Joe, Bryce, and Mike were on-time. Joe reviewed the work with Bryce and Mike, and then Joe left. Joe returned to the job site to check on progress. They removed a 14x14 foot living room area that was carpeted and replaced it with hardwood. The area surrounding the living room was already hardwood, but there was a beveled edge where the hardwood met the carpet, and they removed the beveled boards so that the new hardwood would be flush with the existing hardwood.
Bryce and Mike were respectful (friendly, no profanity, no loud music, they were careful with my stuff). Both men did an excellent job: They removed baseboards where needed, they cut existing baseboards and wood molding with clean edges and precision, they blended the new hardwood with the existing hardwood, and they left the job site orderly and clean each day. They installed the hardwood around the fireplace, leaving an adequate gap for grout (the area around the fireplace is slate/stone tile).
Most of the work took place the first day (removing carpet, removing/cutting baseboards and molding, installing new hardwood, sanding, applying wood filler). On the second day, they sanded and applied the first water-based finish. The third day involved applying the second water-based finish. On the fourth day, they replaced the baseboards.
Prior to the job, we agreed that I would caulk and apply touch-up paint to the baseboards...which was a fairly easy task (mostly caulking, very little painting since they were careful with the boards). I also took care of the grout around the fireplace.
Regarding payment... Joe asked for half of the amount on the first day when he dropped-off the boards and his men started work. The final half of the payment was due when the work was completed.
There is some variation between the existing hardwood (7 years old) and the new hardwood; both are white oak #2. But that variation is to be expected (i.e., not the same lot of wood, finishing was a different product, and age). In the future, when I have all the hardwood flooring refinished, then there will likely be no variation. The finishing sheen (flat/matte) matches between the new and existing hardwood.
The bottom line... IT LOOKS GREAT, the price was competitive, and Joe and his team were pleasant to work with.
In the future, when it comes time to have my hardwood floors refinished, I will definitely consider Classic Hardwood Floors.
"[member name removed] like a lot of people purchased a home with hardwood floors and wanted to update other parts of it to match. We removed the base trim and carpet along with sub-floor prep. We installed new wood to tie into the existing and sanded it all together. Then it was coated all together to try to achieve an even appearance from the old to the new. While we do our best to get as close as possible matches from old to new , in some instances the product is no longer available due to age or the company who produced it went out of business. We re-installed the base trim ,hauled off the trash and completed our work. [member name removed] was another in a long line Great customers . Thanks [member name removed]. Your awesome Joe with Classic"
"Tony and his wife moved to Cascade and needed some help with there flooring needs. We installed some pre-finished flooring Tony had purchased. They have a Killer view of Cascade Lake it was a real pleasure to work there in such a lovely place. Installing any type of hardwood takes the proper amount of prep time and fore thought to make sure you get the results best suited for the job. Tony's job was no exception . Where they live close to a large body of water it's best to have the wood on site for several days and to make sure the customers knows the wood needs to be at living temperature before installation begins. The mistake that most people make is that they turn the temperature way down when there gone somewhere for long periods of time and the wood takes on moisture . When they get home the first thing is to turn up the heat then floor dries out and the floor shrinks. Or when summer hits and no one has been in the house for months the floor moves because of the wide temperature changes. It is best to keep your summer home within 10 degrees of living temperature to reduce the overall movement of the floor. Tony and his wife are lovely people it was my privilege to do work for them. Respectfully Joe with Classic"
