The appointment went well enough today. Of course, you're never sure you are getting the straight scoop nowadays, but they seemed honest enough. I had a slight feeling that they may have exaggerated the problem just a bit. Since this was the dealership, I expected to pay a premium on parts and labor. I wasn't "disappointed". Checking the prices against the O'Reilly parts store, you can see that the prices were about 75-100% higher than we could have bought them there. For example, the same therostat we paid $22 for goes for $13 at the parts store. The radiator we paid $187 was about $120. However, few dealers will allow you to bring in your own parts, and we didn't have any better way of getting it done in a reasonable amount of time. I originally was going to wait for the service, but decided against that. They said it would be ready in about three hours. It ended up being about seven hours total.
At around the five hour point, I tried to call to get an ETA. I had Don's cell phone, but no answer. I call the service desk, and no answer. So we just went down and waited the last couple of hours. When we did pick up the car, they were friendly and explained everything.
It looks like a great job -- time will tell. They cleaned the engine and engine compartment so it looks like new. Overall, an "as expected" to slightly better than expected experience.
