Double R Construction

Contacted Ryan in May and we talked about the details of when to paint the house. We settled on Aug. 1, 2013 for the start and that it would take approx 2 weeks from start to finish. In late June he showed up at my house and said that he needed 2,700.00 as a down payment, which I payed on the spot with a check. Towards the end of July, I phoned him to verify that he would be at our house Aug. 1st to start work and he said that he had gotten behind on a couple of other houses. He said that he needed an extra week before he was able to start. He showed up on Aug. 13th to power wash the house, which took approx. 1.5 hours. After that it was really difficult to get a hold of him. Finally, he called to tell me that he had ear infections and that the doctor told him no going up ladders for 2 weeks, so another delay. The last week of Aug. I tried calling him a couple of times with no response. Finally, he called me Aug. 30th to inform me that he had to move to Arizona or New Mexico for his ears and that he would be leaving next day. He told me he needed 2 weeks to give me a refund on the $2700.00. On Sept. 15th I started calling him to see when he would be sending me my refund. I called every week for a month. One of the calls he did answer, but then acted like he didn't hear me on the other end, and hung up. I tried calling him back but only got his voice mail. Today is Oct. 21 and to date, Ryan has never even tried to contact me, and I am quite certain I will never see my $2700.00 again.

UPDATE 5/6/14 - On 5/1 I received a check from Ryan for reimbursement for the down payment. I had not received any communication from him since his call on Aug. 30, 2013. The check was accompanied by a letter explaining that he was out of state and that his computer crashed so he didn't have my contact info. Doesn't explain why he didn't respond to my many phone calls (all of which I left my phone number). I do not think Ryan handled this professionally. I still feel there is deceit about why he took so long to refund my money. I wish that I could trust him, because he really does do really good work.  Use caution if you decide to hire him.
