Our work ethic is simple, we concentrate on quality. We cannot offer cheap prices and quality, and I do not wish to do poor work. We also believe in taking care of everything you need. For example: I don't hire out my gutter work, we do it the right way, we handle everything including the rotted boards that may be underneath your old gutters, for example. We would prefer to paint our own siding, because I like to use good paint that makes our siding last! If you want cabinets or other woodworking, we finish the work so you don't have to set up a painter, and we install it. Those are good examples of how we handle a project. Also, it's simple to one stop shop with us, it's just easier! We wear all the hats that you will need on any project. As well, I'm the owner, and I'll be there to make sure everything is done the way it's supposed to be done, not what is necessarily the quickest or easiest method. Judd was great! Even in below freezing temperatures, he got my roof installed quickly and efficiently, and even let me borrow his kerosene heater to help warm the house up and hasten the shingles settling down into their proper position. *Edit* Couple of years after the roof was installed, and I gotta say, it still looks spectacular. I have absolutely zero complaints. Highly recommend.

My roof needed replaced due to hail damage. Judd was able to help me through the process and get the work done quickly. My new roof looks great. All work was performed according to the contract. The roofing crew was courteous and cleaned up the yard well when they were done. Judd was knowledgeable and worked with me and my claims adjuster to get all of my needs taken care of. I contacted other companies to bid the job and chose Mid States because of Judd.

Judd and his crew did a fantastic job. While inspecting the roof, Judd was able to identify a structural problem with our roof caused by the fireplace chimney. They were able to rebuild the chimney and replace support beams for our roof. His crew was then able to replace our shingles in under 5 hours.

The service was excellent. It was a very professional job. They were efficient. They didnt take too long. It took them less than a week. They took off the entire shingles and prepared the new roof. The head of the company was there all the time and supervised his workers. They also cleaned up after. I was very happy with everything.

Judd provided three different estimates for different quality and style of shingles and stuck to the estimate for the one we chose. Some extra work was required to address some roof sheeting issues that existed when the house was built 22 years ago. Instead of just covering it up with new shingles they addressed the issues. Did a nice job of cleaning up too. We also had them replace skylights that had fogged over. Communication was great, Judd kept us informed of any issues and progress. Our roof does look amazing.

From the first contact to the end I was impressed with the responsiveness and professionalism that Mid States Carpenters exhibited. Our roof need to be replaced and due to the timing I was concerned about getting it done before the snow started and temperatures dropped. Mr Penny with Mid States Carpenters was quick to respond and was at my home with a crew in less than a week. Once the crew started my new roof was done in under 2 days, which I would like to add was the 23rd of December. Due to the urgency of the project the insurance claim did not get processed correctly so we were only getting a $300 reimbursement. When I told Mr. Penny about this he stepped in and spoke to the adjuster and provided additional details and photos. The insurance re-opened the claim and paid nearly 50% of the cost of the new roof. I am certain that without him going the extra mile for me I would have been out of luck. I would recommend Mid-States Carpenters to anyone and am so impressed by them that I have shared my experience with anyone that will listen. 5 stars isn't enough in my book.

The owner Judd Penny was referred to us as a general contractor. When we told him what we wanted he blew our expectations out of the water. Judd and his crew were there when they said they would be and finished the job as he said he would. His knowledge and professionalism was very impressive as was the finished product. We were very pleased with the work Judd and his crew did for us!! During our estimate Judd informed us that our shingles had melted to the roof due to no venting. He is an expert in venting since taking classes and being certified. He offered us a very good deal which included the new venting we needed. We also purchased the extended warranty which provides materials and labor at 100% Judd is very trustworthy. He has amazing integrity and will take great pride in the work he will do for you!! The workers were competent, skilled, respectful and kind, and the remodeling project was completed in a professional manner. On the surface, it sounds simple to move appliances from the basement to a first floor location, but it required permits, planning, and careful execution. When looking into the ventilation for the dryer, the workers discovered that work completed years ago by another contractor was done improperly. Bathroom vents were not vented to the outside and were instead vented directly into the space above the ceiling. They addressed this problem and other complications that arose with honesty, and Judd Penny was transparent about the status of the project throughout the project life cycle. If I needed remodeling completed - big or small projects - I would not hesitate to again work with Mid States Carpenters and Judd Penny. I was thrilled with the results and so were my elderly parents!

We replaced approximately 10 exterior trim boards in advance of painting our house. Judd was very quick to respond to my request for an estimate and great with communication throughout the project. His walk-thru during the estimate process was very thorough and you could tell he was knowledgeable by the items he pointed out about the construction of our house and recommendations he made. His crew was timely, hardworking and detailed. Judd wasn't there for the entire job, but was on-site daily and was always asking if the work was acceptable. At the end of the job he did a walk-thru of everything completed, which we were very pleased with. I felt very comfortable with his crew and highly recommend them.

I was very pleased with the work Judd Penny and his crew did on our house. His assessment of problems included addressing original construction flaws as well as fixing more recent inadequate roof repair work done by another contractor. Judd's familiarity with and appreciation of old house "character" was evident when he first came over to look at the job and weighed heavily in the decision to choose Mid-States for our restoration project. The work was completed for the quoted price, accommodating a number of "surprises" along the way that inevitably arise with work on old houses, like those mentioned in other reviews. Our job took longer than initially projected but to me that just seems to be the nature of the beast. Alternatives and options were clearly explained throughout the process, when decisions needed to be made to complete repairs needed but still keep within budget. I do not hesitate to recommend contacting Mid-States for home maintenance and improvements work. We will be using their services again.
