On January 13, 2001 my husband and I contracted with IQ Renovations LLC previously known as Epic Homes LLC (Megan LeanneTroyer, Timothy Ryan Marlow, and Dennis Northway) to build on a mudroom including a closet and to build-in cabinets and wall niche in our living room. Being new at this, I did not do a background check on either the company or the above named. Within days of signing my gut was very unsettled. I began sifiting through the Iowa State online resources via IQ Renovations. The information was devastating. Before work began WHOtv, channel 13, in Des Moines, IA ran a story on the history of this company and Timothy Marlow's long, shady record. After speaking to sub-contractors who never got paid, we immediately stopped our contract with IQ Renovations and requested our down payment back from Timothy Marlow in person and in letter. We received a letter back (dated 3-6-11) from Tim Marlow stating he would pay us back within four months but couldn't agree to our request by April 15th. On July 20, 2010 we sent certified letters to both Timothy Marlow and Megan Troyer requesting our down payment in full. To date we have not so much as received a response. Subsequently we have officially filed a Consumer Protection Complaint with the Attorney General of Iowa. I urge you to do your homework before signing any contract. When I finally followed my instincts I found a plethera of information by looking online through the state using both the company name and individual names connected to the company to uncover a long history of scamming people using various methods. Be smart, not sorry!
Description of Work: On January 13, 2011 we contracted with IQ Renovation on 1226 Grand Ave., Ste. 100, West Des Moines, IA (also known as IQ Renovations LLC) to do framing, electrical work, insulation, drywall/painting, install doors, flooring, trim and cabinets/shelving to add a mudroom and closet as well as cabinets and niche in our livingroom/familyroom. We made a down payment of $7,670 (half the full cost of the project of $15,340). No work was done. After following a gut instinct I found out how to research online via Iowa criminal charges against the above named and company. We immediately stopped action on the contract, first verbally followed up in writing.

Their price for the garage door was high. They subbed out the garage door work which was very good, but they ended up not paying the guy that did it. I was threated with a lien until someone intervened. The work on the bathroom was fair and somewhat pricey.
Description of Work: They put on a garage door, they replaced a ceiling in my bathroom, and they were supposed to replace my driveway but they never ended up doing that.
