Piano Tuning
Arnie came to my home right on time. He evaluated my piano, which I had hired him to tune. He noted the violins in the other room and asked if anyone played any other instruments . I told him the kids played violin. He then explained that the age of my piano (pre-1920) and the fact that the kids play other instruments would indicate that this piano shouldn't be tuned. He said it could be tuned to itself, but the tone would never match the violins, which could damage the kids' ability train their ears. I was disappointed, but he said tuning the piano to itself would be expensive and time consuming (over $300 and 2 years or so) plus the tone was off. He called someone he knew who was giving away a piano to see if they still had it (they didn't). He was very polite and professional, and although I don't like what he told me, I am glad he told me. He only charged me $20, even though he drove half and hour and across state lines to come to my home.
