I have been going to Oxford Vet Clinic since getting my dog in the spring of 2007. They came recommended by a friend for their reasonable prices and flexible schedule. While I agree with those two aspects, I feel frustrated at times with the quality of care that I have received from them on routine issues. My pet suffers from allergies and is constantly battling ear infections. The vet has not been that helpful in determining the source of the allergies or giving advice on how to avoid them - all she will recommend is giving my pet Benadryl daily, which hasn't helped at all with the allergies and always makes my dog extremely tired. On a return visit, I reported these findings, and again was given the recommendation to up the dosage of Benadryl and change to a different kind of food. It would be helpful and I would be willing to pay for tests to determine what the source of the allergies are, but this has not been given as an option.

It also has frustrated me that each time I need a refill on my dog's ear infection medication, I am forced to go in and pay for an entire exam and analysis of the infection, although the infection never changes and I just need a refill on the medication.

They are very good with my pet, excellent at handling her sometimes wild temperment, and very good at working us into the schedule. Their prices are some of the best in the area, and overall, they have been a good choice. These few issues, however, leave me feeling frustrated and looking for a new place to take my dog to get these allergy and ear infection issues resolved once and for all. If you are looking for routine care and vaccinations, they would be an excellent choice, but if you are struggling with ongoing health issues, it might be wise to look elsewhere.

Over a decade, Dr. Jonelle Hankner provide loving care for both of my beloved boxer dogs. Sadly, they are no longer with me, but the memories of her care and concern are still with me. I'd recommend Dr. Hankner to everyone. For me, her practice was well worth the 20 minute drive from Iowa City.
