Did a great job removing the old and pouring a new driveway. They had to add a sidewalk to be compliant.

My old driveway was slanted in such a way that it was washing out the dirt under the side of the driveway and they fixed it so I won't have that problem anymore. They did an excellent job and I have been recommending them to my friends.

Retaining Wall - Install
Yes, I recommend this pro

JDM is one of the best contractors I've ever worked with. They are my go to for all concrete works and I've used their services extensively. A 70'L x 12' tall 2'thick Keystone retaining wall with 2 bends, footings, a 100' sidewalk curb, 1200 sq feet of crushed stone leveling and ground prep. Thousands of sq feet of landscape grading. They've been been spot on every time. For example, the retaining wall, has both low point drainage and face drains, with stepped geogrid tiebacks. This is how a proper retaining wall is done. They even trimmed the geogrid fabric around the blocks 100% pro grade retaining wall. Get complimented on it by other contractors all the time. Footings were 2'round and 1'round dug 4' deep, well below frostline, positioned right on center for steel posts. Ironworker gave a "dang, these footings are dead nuts". The concrete walk had 2 vectors of fall, 2% linear fall and 1% lateral. There are relief scores every 6' and its edges properly shaped against chipping. Obviously mother nature doesn't play nice and poured concrete does its thing, so I bet I could bust out my micrometer and laser level and find some +-% somewhere, or some place where concrete leaked through forms. Its real life and poured material doesn't always obey. I read some bad reviews here and I must say, am surprised. If you communicate to Danelle and Melvin what you want done EXACTLY they will get it done to your speciifications as close as anyone I've worked with. Danelle shows up on time to do the estimates, bids are quick and fair, and the invoice has always been at or below bid. Melvin is a top tier foreman. Asks what you want before every job. He does exactly what you say, so some of the negative reviews could probably have been more thorough with their instructions. Specify depth, degree of fall, give them the architectural prints. You will get what you want. If you want precise results, give precise instructions, and JDM gives me the results I want every time, bar none. I'll build my retirement home on their concrete.

On Sept 8, 2020, we entered a contract with JDM to redo our driveway. At the time the bid was presented (Sept 2), we were told the work would be completed at the end of Sept or beginning of Oct (4-6 weeks out). We paid the required 10% deposit (over $1200) and then kept checking on the start date because we were waiting to put our house on the market. JDM pushed back their work to mid-Oct, then late Oct, and then early Nov. When we complained, JDM said there were delays due to the derecho and rain. The derecho occurred one month before we entered into the contract (Aug 10), and the rain was occurring the week we were presented with and entered the contract. When it snowed in mid-Oct, we raised a concern about the structural integrity of the concrete when poured in bad weather. JDM said it was fine. When we explained that we had been waiting to put our house on the market and this timeline was not what we agreed to when entering the contract, JDM said they were booking 10-12 weeks out at the time we contracted. This conveniently coincided with the current timeline, but not what we had been told. We would not have agreed in Sept to a timeline that put the concrete pour in late Nov/early Dec. We asked for our deposit back and were told it was nonrefundable. We asked JDM under what circumstances they gave customers a recourse for failure on their part to fulfill the contract. They said they intended to fulfill it in November. I asked to review the contract again and only then discovered that, if they proceed with the work in bad weather, that we would be charged more for â winter chargesâ (e.g., hot water, calcium, coverings). This was never brought up when JDM was dismissing our concerns about the structural integrity of a pour in bad weather. The contract further stipulates that choosing to delay until spring, rather than paying the â winter charges,â would require us to pay 50% of the remaining charge (about $6000) or forfeit our deposit. Of course, there is no guarantee that they will actually complete the work in the spring, so that would just mean more money they get to keep for failing to complete the work in the timeline originally agreed upon. We now will lose money on our home sale as well. Essentially, the company entered the contract under false pretenses and will only consider honoring it by extorting additional funds from us. They bear no sense of responsibility for fulfilling the contract within a reasonable time period as agreed upon, and they leave no means of recuperating a significant investment of funds that they view as potentially holding your place in a hidden timeline.

I had scheduled with Danelle to come out to my home and provide an estimate. What I was looking for was a third driveway to be poured. I had asked for two quotes, one to go from my fence in the back yard to 30 inches from the sidewalk, and one to go 10 feet from my back yard fence to 30 inches from the driveway. Basically the same quote, just that one was 10 feet shorter than the other. -Danelle arrived on time and was very pleasant to talk to. -My dad was there at the time, and had explained to Danelle that the back of this driveway would be a future location for a shed, and he had asked for the new driveway to be level along the house and minimum slope away from the house. -Danelle agreed that would not be a problem. - Danelle had told me that they were expecting to start in late September, early October. -On August 30, Danelle sent me an email to tell me they would begin on September 4th. To confirm, I had asked if this was a 2-day job, or what to expect as far as a timeline? This was the response I received, Generally we try to form and pour all in the same day and then have a second day for clean up. It all depends upon how smoothly things run. -by 430pm, no one had arrived. In my anger, I called Danelle and left a voicemail. I told her it was 430pm, and no one had showed up, or given me the courtesy of a phone call to tell me they were not going to show up. I told her that I expect a return call with an explanation of why no one showed up and exactly when they will be showing up - 5:30pm the crew arrived. I stayed home from work based on Danelles previous statements about form and pour in one day. Still angry, I opened the door to find what I believe was the lead guy on the project. He introduced himself and I stared at him blankly. After he spoke, I told him I was confused. He asked me why I was confused and I explained that it was 530pm and there was no way they were going to get very far. I walked out to the driveway and explained that I was told by Danelle that generally they form and pour in the same day, so I had stayed home all day waiting for arrival. They said that this is not how it works and this was their third job today, I certainly understand that, but I can only go by what I was told. Again out of anger and frustration, I said, maybe someone needs to explain how this is done to Danelle, so she can properly communicate that to your customers. The **lead guy** told me that maybe I should tell her, I laughed and said **no thank you** -After the excavation was done, and the forms placed I apologized to Melvin for my frustration. The misinformation had not come from him, it was from Danelle and it was not right for me to take it out on him or his crew. He accepted and they packed up and left -Forms were not placed as agreed -The next morning, brought this up to Melvin, but after explanation, I agreed to pouring it. -They Poured, and left with no instruction or communication to me. -Driveway was not poured with the agreed slant. -Utilities were surrounded by concrete. -My father contacted Danelle to discuss the slant and the length of the drive and she YELLED at him for my comments I made to her crew the day prior. She continued to deny some of the things that she had previously agreed to in regard to the slant of the drive. -Later that day, the crew arrived at my house, cut off the last few inches of my drive with a circular saw and cut out an access area for my utilities. They left with no further communication. There is concrete splattered on my siding, my foundation and in my existing driveway. To Conclude, I would not hire JDM in the future. I found them to be rude and unprofessional and , as well as left me with a costly mess to clean up *this has been abbreviated to meet character limits

What started out as a positive experience quickly turned negative. When I received my final invoice the cost of one of my concrete pads had gone up by more than 35%. Nobody called to ask if I still wanted to complete the job at the new price, and there was no mention of it on the bill, I just happened to notice the total price had increased. When I inquired that this must be a mistake I was told by Danelle that she **forgot** to include that part on the bid. When I paid the original amount quoted, I received another bill for the added amount and a note that said I had begun to accrue finance charges. I called to speak with Danelle to explain that it did not seem reasonable for the price to go up by 35% without a call for me to approve moving the job forward at the higher cost (they knew of the need before starting the job). She became very upset on the phone and berated me that the money must be more important to me than doing the job correctly and that she would have her guys come and remove the added thick edge and I could just see in a couple of years the problem it would cause. Again, I tried to explain that I would not have asked them to do the job incorrectly, but I would have chosen not to install the pad at all as it was only a spot to place my trash cans....and not worth the additional expense at the new rate. Ultimately, Danelle did say she would just **eat** the cost of the additional concrete...but only after becoming quite hostile on the phone. The gentlemen who installed the concrete were friendly and respectful. So far the concrete looks fine (installed 4 weeks ago). The only complaint I have about the quality of the work is an unacceptable amount of gravel and concrete chunks in my yard for me to haul away. The **nackfill** with existing dirt was large clods of dirt thrown into the hole - honestly it would have been easier if they did not do anything to back fill as I had to remove what they replaced to break it up and fill it back in....

They promised footings but didn't do them. They also told me they'd have to make the porch smaller, and charged me 10% MORE on the final bid for less concrete. Hairline cracks appeared in the concrete as soon as they took the forms off. Also indicated there would be re-bar but I don't think there was. I will NEVER use Home Advisor again. What a joke! If only I'd read the reviews on other websites instead of relying on Home Advisor.

Just make sure you let them know you don't want grass seed put down where you have decorative rock areas. They put grass seed everywhere they back filled and now I have grass coming up all over next to my patio in areas where I have river rock and perennials beds.

We had a nasty project for which we needed help. A basement wall caved in along the whole side of the house. We had many unfortunate experiences in repairing this. Our experience with JDM was NOT one of those. From the time I initially emailed them until the job was completed, they were exceptional. They came on the job after the mason finished rebuilding the wall. There was a large hole approximately 30 feet by 10 feet by 8 feet deep with all the dirt from that piled all over the front lawn. They filled the hole, installed drainage, brought in black dirt and graded. They came two weeks earlier than estimated, which was most welcome. They arrived with an array of equipment...anything that would be needed. They were professional in every way. When they finished, they scraped all the sidewalk, then swept it and then blew it off. After having had a whole summer of people failing to call back, failing to answer emails, not showing up to bid and not showing up to work, JDM was totally refreshing. All contact with them was so prompt and courteous. They treated us like we had a million dollar job for them to do. We would recommend them to anyone.

They got back to me right away. So happy with the price, I had them do more projects. Things that I thought we would have to wait on, their price was so good, we had them go ahead and do it. They leveled my back yard and tore down a rubble wall and put up a beautiful wall. Makes by backyard seem even bigger. And did my side yard too. Now I have a beautiful level yard. Even my neighbors are envious. They even did more than they said they would do. I have already called them for my next project.

I needed a single sidewalk panel removed and replaced. They were able to find it and give me an estimate without me having to physically show it to them, which is more than I can say for the multi-state operation I contacted. They were prompt and had minimal impact on my life and yard. They were also about one sixth the price of the multi-state company. I would gladly recommend them, as well as hire them again.

The problems continue to show up after only two years....cracking, deteriorating concrete....I witnessed poor practices....not using expansion joint when it should have been used, etc.,etc. This contractor cannot be trusted. Had the old sidewalk replaced. They did it a month sooner than anticipated (really liked that). A great job on the concrete portion. Only downside was cleanup. Should have left tape across driveway so it could cure properly, left roots sticking up out of the ground and lots of gravel left along the sidewalk. A broom and a rake should be part of the crew's tools. The crew needs to look at the job and ask themselves whether they would like to mow that area. Was it a different crew for cleanup vs concrete work?
