"Thank you for your business and review [Member Name Removed]! I am happy we were able to help you out on such short notice. I hope the rest of this week goes better than the way it started out for you and your door. Julie Hajek"
First project: I had left my hose on the outside faucet my first winter in Iowa and it cracked in the spring when I tried to use it. So I needed the pipe replaced with a freeze-safe one. It required opening the wall in my downstairs bathroom to access the pipe, so dry wall repair had to be done as well.
Second project: My fan in my primary bathroom went out and died. It was installed in 1968 and had an abnormal dimension. I needed it replaced. But they needed to widen the hole and install a new fan.
Third project: I installed a door to my basement because I am renting out that area. When the door was installed, we had to take the door frame back a few inches to fit the footprint of the area. The light going down to the lower level ended up too close to the door to be used. I had the HRT move the light about a foot to be even with the door to the lower level and the door to the utility room. The light was originally attached to the light in the entryway as well. I had them deaden that connection and attach the light to a switch so the entryway light and the lower level were now 2 separate switches.
Fourth project: When I moved into my house, I switched out an ugly chandelier above the dining room table to a ceiling fan light. Well, I wanted to have the light and the fan be independent of each other. I had them install an appropriate switch for it. I didn't know if there was a powerbox above the fan. Luckily there was one, so it made the job a little easier.
Fifth project: my hallway to the bedrooms had a dimmer switch. Who has a dimmer switch in the hallway?! Everytime my roommates would turn on the light, they would forget to turn the light all the way off, so I had a constant flicker of light. I had them take out the dimmer switch for a simple off and on switch.
Sixth project: My roommate decided that she didn't like my garage as is and hit the side of it backing out. So, the door was not damaged, but the side of the garage had visibly shifted. HRT replaced two 2x4 pieces, the seal and painted the garage exterior with paint I provided.
Seventh project: I had holes in my wall from damages inflicted by my roommate. I had them mud up the holes and sand them to be even. I painted over the area at a later time.
Overall a good experience. They emailed me all the invoices and I mailed them checks. They were in good communication with me and I will use them again after I save up more money for the things I need done.
Home Repair Team isn't always the cheapest alternative in our area, but I'd rather pay a bit more to have the confidence that the job will be done right. The estimate seemed reasonable so I signed the contract.
It was a couple of weeks before they arrived to do the work (having called a couple of times in the interim to keep me up to date), but we had weather problems that would have made the work difficult to do. When they did arrive, the work was done quickly and well, and I've been very happy with the results. The people I dealt with were polite, professional, and knowledgeable.
They send a detailed questionnaire with the invoice so you can tell them about the experience with their firm.
The project I was most nervous about was the installation of a peephole in our solid oak front door. It is very unusual, beautiful, and expensive, and would be easy to ruin in this project. It took him 10 minutes to install it exactly as I had envisioned it, with no damage to the door.
He ran into some trouble on one project, but we worked together to come up with a solution.
The most difficult project (and one my husband said couldn't be done, and one I had some doubts about myself), was hanging the 55" TV. The previous 32" TV was in a built in cabinet behind a door, but that space was only big enough for a 32" TV. Travis had to remove the doors, assemble and mount a custom bracket inside the cabinet on studs, and center the TV to skim the outside of the cabinet. He never hesitated once and worked efficiently to figure out how to position everything. Not only did he do it, he made a lot of custom adjustments so that it fit perfectly over the space. Then he went the extra mile and hooked up the cable, DVD, tuner, CD player, and speakers. To say that I am happy would be the understatement of the year.
