Fixed in 15 minutes or less and charge was minimal. Knew I didn't have heat and showed up very quickly. Would hire again

Had problems with the furnace within a few weeks of needing heat. If I had known that they ONLY work " bankers hours", I would have hired someone else! Everyone knows problems/breakdowns don't happen 9 to 5 on Monday through Friday...I was without heat 2 days last week because they were "busy" due to a cold snap. I'm without heat again since Saturday morning with no response...have to wait until Monday! Employees were nice but just want to get it done, seemed to figure it out as they went along. Repair on Friday last week was "seems ok now, must be intermittant problem"...SERIOUSLY!!!!

Member Comments:On Thursday January 11th, I noticed there was a drip coming from a solenoid valve switch on my geo-source furnace in my basement.
Unable to acquire a reputable local heating and A/C business to repair a leaky solenoid valve on my furnace within a short time. I reluctantly contacted Jim Hundley Heating and A/C (an area Heating and A/C business) to do the work….. my reluctance was due to a previous bad experience with them a few years earlier.
Rather than wait for days I decided to give Mr. Hundley's business another try.
I contacted them and they came out the following day……. the leak was confirmed and they replaced the solenoid valve on Thursday morning.
The furnace ran well for approximately 30 hours when all of a sudden my wife and I heard a loud bang and an extreme swishing sound. I immediately ran down the basement and found the fittings around the solenoid valve that was replaced had sprung a high pressure leak.
I ran through the streams of water spray and shut the water off. This was 7:00 PM Friday night.
I immediately called Hundley's emergency service since my furnace had to be shut down and the outside temps in the low teens……… I was able to run an auxiliary heater but it didn't come close to keeping the home warm. When the on-call tech answered the phone he said he was sorry and would call the tech that performed the work and call me back.
After a few minutes passed he returned the call saying that the other tech was unavailable through out the entire weekend and they would get to me on Monday. I asked what the purpose of the on call tech was if they wouldn't come out when a furnace wasn't operating properly, especially due to a faulty repair they had made.
He once again apologized, told me to run my auxiliary heat but confirmed they wouldn't come out until Monday morning even though I had explained my home was very cold in the low 40's.
Once the plumber arrived Monday he explained why it broke which was due to a PVC and metal connection male / female reversal which either caused or contributed to the crack and eventually break when tightened….. it was the way it was installed.
Once I got the bill I was utterly amazed that it included labor for the return trip in addition to the initial repair cost.
I called Hundley's office and talked to the owner who offered NO apology and only an explanation which I already knew. Additionally, I informed him the $93.00 dollars he charged for the part could be purchased all day for $28.00…….. he said maybe he should be looking elsewhere to purchase the parts……
NOW THE BAD PART - this is exactly why I didn't want to use Hundley Heating and A/C, the same problem happened to me in 2008 by them……..
Fortunately, the water damage was minimal as most of the items in that part of the basement were stored in plastic containers. However, side walls ceiling and nearly 1/2 of my basement was flooded.
You know how it goes and quot;fool me once shame on you.................. fool me twice shame on me!
This is your warning - find a decent Heating and A/C business! or you will be the FOOL!

Response from Jim Hundley Heating & Air Conditioning
"We did not install the system originally and do not carry parts for his brand so when the call came in after hours our Tech advise him that we would not be able to get the parts the following Monday. Since he had electric heat backup knew he could get by. This was one of those unfortunate happenings and regret [removed member's name] had the problem shortly after a recent repair. The charges was adjusted for the original bill sent to him and he seemed pleased at the time Jim talked with him."

They will be coming back to do a few things but pretty much the work with the AC is done. Another guy who has done external work for me recommended this plumber. I gave him a call, he came out and gave me an estimate and decided to go with him. There are still a few things I want to ask them about, I want to make sure they gave the AC a good look over. They did say they would but I haven't confirmed that they did when they left but they will be back today or tomorrow. I haven't gotten the bill yet either. As far as politeness and promptness and taking the time to understand my concerns and where I wanted to go with it they did a nice job. They told me if it were their place the things they would do and I appreciated that because I wasn't sure if the things I wanted to do were the right things or not. It looked like they took the time to do the right job rather than rush through and get to the next job. Overall, I think they are going to be pretty fair based on the estimate.

Young man named Shawn did a great job and most of all he cleaned up his mess. He gave me advice on type of filter to use. I highly recommend Jim Hundley Heating and AC.

Noticed on Sunday night that the blower on our furnace had stopped. Had heard it the during the week making noises and should have called sooner, but then on a Sunday night it quite. Fortunately it wasn't bitterly cold out and was able to keep house warm with our infraheater and space heater. Called Jim and he told me to call the local utility company to shut off gas until the morning when his service man could get here, so it would save us on an after hour service call. Service guy was here right away in the morning and after some difficulty getting the old blower out replaced it. I thought oh boy is this going to cost us because it took him at least 4 hours to get the blower out because it was really bound up. But the cost wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and the service man was very polite and pleasant young man.

Furnace went out, we woke up at 5AM to it on our day off... so I called Jim Hundley's office #... the VM referred me to call Justin at his number... I called, he said he would be out in an hour (it took 75 minutes but that did not matter after he was done because of the great quality of service)... He put on a new circuit board (a LOT of $$ he said unfortunately) but then noticed that it was *not* the circuit board but a smaller mechanical switch problem. So, since he did not put on the switch that the furnace needed, he put on a short-term switch that was from newer models (more expensive) but said he will be back to put on a less expensive switch (the one the furnace model needs) later this week. So in short, Justin was nice, professional, great to be with and not grumpy on his (and my) morning off, and he saved me $$hundreds by noticing the problem was not what initially was thought, and going for the correct (and cheaper!) repair... very happy and warm now! Thanks Justin!

Plumbing went fine after a rough start. (bad placement of fixtures) The mechanical was a disaster. Bid something they knew wouldn't pass inspection, inspector caught it before purchase and installation. Next tried to install the appropriate units to completion instead of just the rough in. Had to come back and remove for the dry walling step. Installed ventilation controls wrong. Installed one ventilation unit supply lines that did not pass the fire code portion of the inspection. Claimed it was not their problem and took three weeks to finally fix it. If you want whining and feet dragging, consider these guys. If you want a professional job, look elsewhere.

Installation was completed in a timely and professional manner with minimal interruption to normal activities. Communication with installers was good. Follow-up on cosmetic detail after installation was much appreciated.
