placing roof anchors, but I had to do this several times in order that this actually be done. Two times they forgot to place the anchors. The first time, they had already nailed down the asphalt layer. It was torn up, tearing a hole where every nail had penetrated in order to find the rafters. They then renailed the same asphalt layer, holes and all. The second time was after the entire roof was finished and they had to come back and place the last anchor by prying up the new shingles. Also during removal of the original shingles, a 1 ft square of plywood came up with the tiles. The plywood had delaminated so it was now at half thickness. I had to request that this be replaced since it was at the edge and flexed, and also the plywood thickness helps hold the nails. After the roof was completed I found one other area sagged from inside the attic, more than likely due to the same reason. The other concern I had was with the chimney flashing. When the area around the chimney was flashed, the step flashing was put over the counter flashing. This is opposite to the manufacturer?s instructions and after talking with a city house inspector I was told this was not the recommended installation method. It may lead to leaks around the chimney in the future. In my opinion, putting the roof on as fast as possible was more of a concern than taking a little more time and doing it right. In the future I will have in the contract that payment in full will only occur after inspection by an independent housing inspector.
"We are always concerned when a client gives us a negative review. The client was constantly on the roof interfering with our help. Had explained to him when the crew was there to make sure they placed the anchors where he wanted them- he did not do this . His flashing issue was addressed - All we did was to put in two small pieces to make the existing better- we did not reflash. He requested a bid on having it redone. - which we did . At this point in time he has not requested this work to be done. The issue with the sheeting is a judgement call that our crew makes -not being able to see the interior it is hard sometimes to decide what to replace or not. we do the best we can To bad there isn't a site to complain about clients ."
"We have asked this client to provide us with original contract . Have had no response . Supposedly it was done 5 years ago. Without proper paperwork we have no record of this project. Very suspicious this is a competitor. We always warrant our work if we do it . We wish there is would be a way to stop this type of fraud. Doing 100s of projects per year we have lots of legitimate referrals. Please give us a call. 319-480-7883"

"We are disappointed that this client felt he was over charged . The Angies service purchased was for minor repairs such as chaulking which we did . We cant be held responsible for the past electrical work done at this clients house. The issue the client has was a major repair- which is not part of what he purchased . We did give him an estimate to do the major repair."
On Wednesday November 13, 2013 Pa's Construction LLC began the work on our roof. The roofing agreement was made through Daniel Saunders, sales manager for Pa's Construction LLC. The contract agreement was made for $3655 and included acquiring all necessary permits, the removal of one existing layer of shingles, the disposal of old shingles and excess waste, installation of ice and water guards, application of tar paper, new pipe boot flashing, new ridge vents, clean up of job site, a 10 year workmanship warranty, and the removal of satellite dishes. Both my husband and I were at work during the day while the crew was working on our roof. The evening of November 13 when we arrived home, we noticed a huge dumpster in our driveway that the company was using for waste disposal. We also found that the throat of our driveway was newly damaged, and that there were tire tracks that led from the street to the damaged driveway and up to where the dumpster was sitting. Not to mention our backyard was full of equipment to be used the following day, trash from a meal the workers had eaten, and the satellite dishes that had been removed from the roof. To top it off, our dome vents were removed, but the holes were left in the plywood and shingled over. NOW WE HAVE TO DO A TEAROFF TO FIX THE HOLES LEFT IN OUR PLYWOOD.
The following morning on Thursday November 14, 2013 my husband called the company expressing his disappointment in the damages to the driveway, and requested that the company make arrangements to get repairs made. That day the company finished the work on our roof. When we arrived home on the evening of November 14 the damage to the driveway had not been repaired, nor was there any communication explaining their intention to make any future repairs. The satellite dishes were still
sitting in the backyard, despite the contract which stated that they would be removed along with all excess waste. That evening I also noticed that my jewelry boxes had been rearranged. The following morning on Friday November 15, 2013 I took a better look at my jewelry boxes, and discovered that my jewelry had been rummaged through, and our dresser drawers had been gone through. I was also missing both a diamond ring and crystal earrings. We called the police that morning and a police report was filed for the stolen jewelry with Cedar Rapids Police. Between November 15 and 21 my husband called Pa's Construction LLC at least three times to discuss the repair of our driveway, and was told that the company would drive by and check it out. However, the company made no agreement to make any repairs, nor have they stopped by to look at the damages.
On Friday November 22, 2013 we received a bill in the mail from Pa's Construction LLC dated 11-20-2013 which expressed that our payment of $3655 was and quot;Due upon receipt!!and quot; and that we would receive a and quot;Late fee after 5 days!!.and quot; We don't think it's acceptable to send an invoice with work still to be done, let alone due in 5 days.
As soon as our driveway was damaged on November 13, 2013 we called Pa's Roofing. The only information that they gave us at the time was that they would come by and and quot;check outand quot; the damages. They never once communicated with us to explain that they were even thinking of fixing the damages. We were billed on November 20, 2013 and the invoice stated that the bill was to be paid in full, and that it was due within 5 days. My husband had called Pa's Roofing multiple times between November 13 and November 20 to find out if they would fix the damage they had caused, and after the invoice was sent Pa's had stopped answering or returning his phone calls. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on November 26, 2013. Suddenly, on November 29, 2013, within three days of our BBB complaint, we were contacted by Pa's Roofing. The phone message from Pa's stated that they wanted to speak with us as soon as possible to make repairs to the driveway. Two days later the satellites were removed from our back yard, and repairs were made to the driveway. We greatly appreciate that they fixed the damage done to the driveway, and removed the satellites. However, it is unfortunate that it took us filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau before any action was taken.
Unfortunately, the story does not end there. After repairs were made to our driveway, we paid Pa's roofing in full for the work done to our roof. As soon as the check cleared on December 10, 2013, Pa's Roofing called to threaten us with a lawsuit if we did not remove all or portions of this Better Business Bureau complaint within 24 hours.
"First of all - [member name removed] has made several false claims. We worked very diligently to satisfy this client. We did not damage the driveway corner-that was done by the delivery truck that brought the shingles. Due to the driveway being under mined from water eroding the area in question. We fixed the driveway as soon as the weather allowed. Temperatures were below freezing we had to wait a few days for it to warm up. We had several conversations with this client during the whole time frame which he was informed we would pick up the dishes and fix the driveway. At that time he was very happy. We believe [member name removed] has made a false statement about his property missing. Possibly to the point of insurance fraud. The pictures he shows of his driveway were preexisting cracks if you look closely you can see were they have been filled by someone. We were there 2 days after knowing of the problem and repaired at no expense of the client even though the under mining of the driveway caused the problem. The roof vent holes were covered to meet code. Whats truly amazing is he paid his bill- only to complain because we wouldn't play his game of being conned into giving him a reduction on his bill. If anyone has a concern about this project and it influences your decision on weather to hire our company- Please call Daniel Saunders - owner at 319-480-7883 We do hundreds of projects a year with a 99% satisfaction rating. Please call and we will furnish a list of satisfied clients."
We had to take it all the way down to the rafters. The crew that was here there was a little bit of a language barrier but very polite and hard working. The crew that was on the roof was usually the same but the ground crew frequently changed, but all were polite. The roof took a little longer then they had planned but it was also very warm that week. And my next door neighbors told us when we were not around outside watching they were just sitting on the roof taking frequent breaks. They knocked on the door asking if I cared if they removed the chimney because when they were trying to work on it, it was just cracking and breaking away. I asked how much it would cost and he told me no charge. I called my husband and he said then let them take it off we don't need it. I watched them literally hit and it broke and pushed it off the roof to the ground a two minute job. Then they said they would have someone come and cut the pipe down so that it would be even at the house and recap it. I said ok that is fine. Job finished up, clean up for the most part was ok. picked up nails for a few days but that is to be expected. A few days pass and still nobody shows up to cut the pipe. Then the next week the owner shows up at my house to have me sign the paperwork for him for the job completion. Asked how we liked the job and I told him that as far as I could tell everything was fine but I don't know anything about roofing. Then I asked him (the owner) when someone was going to come and cut the pipe down and he said for what? I said your workers took my chimney off and said someone would come back and cut the pipe down and recap it. He said I don't know anything about that I need to talk with my guy and I will get back to you. I tried to give him also the coupon that I printed off from Angie's list for 10% off and he would not take it. He said that he doesn't know anything about the coupon and he needed to speak to them about that. Well I told him I printed it off from Angie's list for members and should be able to use it, another thing he was going to get back to me about. Another week passes and still no pipe cut and no phone call back. A city inspector came to check roof. When he went into the attic he asked me if they (Pa's construction) went into to attic when they were done. I said and quot;no, we were never asked if anyone could go up there.and quot; Inspector stated and quot; I can tell because they didn't clean up their mess. You have debris all over up there, they should have cleaned that up.and quot;. Then another week later I received a bill in the mail for $400.00 for chimney removal. I was furious, so I called the owner. He proceeded to tell me that is his standard charge for chimney removal. I asked why he never and quot;got back to meand quot; after he spoke with his guy like he said he was going to and that I was not paying him $400.00 for this when his worker told me there was no charge and it only took them 2 minutes. He said they had to take time to try to fix it first and it wasn't their fault it was old and broke. He said they also had to use more material since they took it off. I explained that they had to replace the wood anyway so why was he trying to charge me for more? No response at first and then the owner said and quot; I am appalled that you are even arguing with me about $400.00 when I gave you a great deal on your roofand quot; I explained to him that I had a friend that had a roofing business and that he told me that kind of a chimney job is a courtesy and not a $400.00 job. The owner then proceeded to say to me that he was not going to argue with me on the phone over this because he was heading home because he was having heat stroke. So I said yes I agree that your health is more important than this so we will continue this conversation when he was feeling better and I will be waiting for his phone call, (this was a Friday). He said he would call next week. I didn't receive a phone call (not shocked) then the next week I received another invoice in the mail stating now I owe him another $100.00 for late fees. I attempted to call again and no answer. I have left 2 messages and returned one of his invoices in the mail stating we needed to speak on this matter and I never received any response. Then about a month later I received a letter in the mail stating that he was putting a lien on my house for non payment. I spoke with a lawyer and got his advice on what to do and I am following his advice. Yesterday I received paperwork from the sheriff that he is suing me for $600.00 now and court costs. I thought that I did all my research and even purchased Angie's list to avoid a business like this. I did see the previous entry on here that was not a good review and asked him about it. He said that wasn't a job that they did so he has asked to have it reviewed but Angies list wont remove it. So I want everyone to know that My job WAS done by PA's CONTRUCTION so don't let him tell you this review isn't for his business. Since the time he had done my roof, I have had 3 other people tell me their horror stories about PA'S construction.
"The only reason this client filed a complaint was to intimidate us into not collecting what She owes us. This project was done months ago. She has no problem with our work other than her attic was dirty afterwords. We had no access the the attic. The city of Cedar Rapids paid for this project with a limit they would pay of $ 10,000. The client knew this from the start . The client was informed of the chimney falling apart and was told it would cost $400-$500 to have removed -patched over -. She agreed to the price . We removed chimney. Finished roof. She signed a satisfaction so we could get paid by the city. The roof was not taken down to rafters. It was taken down to the original sheating and resheated. Client was billed for the chimney as agreed- we have invoiced her several times for the chimney removal with no response other than telling us to get lost. As any company would do we filed a small claims action to collect what is owed to us. Which included late charges . This site is for the purpose of checking out contractors and the work they do -not for filing false claims for the purpose of intimidating a very reputable company because she won't pay her bill. Please fell free to contact us directly if this report has any bearing on your decision on whether the hire our company or not. 319-480-7883 Ask for Dan - He is the owner - manager. We will be glad to give anyone a list of hundred upon hundreds of satisfied clients that pay their bills. As you can see we have almost all AA ratings . Sincerely Daniel M. Saunders - Manager"
