My wife took the day off of work to be at the house while the workers replaced the tiles. This was on a Monday and wasn't really a big deal. We were told they would be there first thing in the morning. Around 10 AM I decided to call the company to inquire and was told they would check and get back to me. This is always very annoying to me since my wife was basically just sitting around waiting for them. She also didn't take a shower in the morning for fear of getting the tiles wet or something. Anyway...they were late on the first day and showed up at noon. I found out that part of the problem was that they actually went to the wrong address. Obvious communication problem between the sales team and the workers. They then also didn't know that we didn't have the replacement grout. Why would I have leftover grout from a house that was built 2 years ago? They then asked my wife to pick a sample of the grout they should use as a match for the current stuff. Why is the professional tile company asking my wife for advice? She has no idea how to gauge colors with grout when dealing with drying times, compound mixture, and so on. They cut out the old tiles, installed the new ones, and said they needed to come back tomorrow with the grout since they didn't have it for some reason. My wife later told me that she had to clean up after them. Cutting tiles is dirty work and it spread dust and filth all over the bathrooms. Why does the homeowner have to clean up their mess? When I returned home I also found two large oils spots on our driveway. Keep in mind that this is a 2-year-old drive way, so I can easily spot when something is out of place. There thwy were, two rather large oil spots...seriously around 6" x 6". The engine must be leaking in two areas about 5" apart because they were two distinct spots. I figured they would notice when they came back the next day and clean it up.
Day 2:
Luckily my sister-in-law had the morning off so the workers could come back with the grout to finish the job. They showed up nice and early this time around and finished quickly. They did not, however, clean up the oil spots, but instead left two more of the same size right by the original two. Four is better than two, right? As I inspected their work I was also very disappointed with the quality. No clean-up again and there was actually a piece of rock or tile chip protruding from the grout in the master bath. It was sharp enough to cut skin also and stood up about 1/8" or so. Nothing huge, but obviously not satisfactory. I called and spoke with the sales contact and he was very nice about it, especially since it was at around 6:30 PM. He said they would have someone out the next morning to fix everything, including the four large oil spots on my driveway. I had attempted to clean them up with some brake cleaner and a scrubber brush in the 100 degree heat before giving up.
Day 3:
My sister-in-law again had the morning off so she was there to let the workers in at 11:20 AM. Not as early as I would have liked, especially when fixing problems with your work. They corrected the grout problem and even fixed a few other imperfections I hadn't mentioned before that I decided to deal with. So this 2nd time they decided to take it slower and actually check their work...sort of. I found a scratch on a wall and on the toilet seat. I'm not sure when they were added, but I'm guessing it was from the tools they used to chip the rock/tile piece that was sticking out of the grout. The scratch on the toiler seat is about 2" and not really a big deal. The one on the wall is about 10" and isn't aweful, but will still take work to clean and repaint. Their 'fix' for the oil spots was to put some sort of powder on them and let soak or something. Well this did nothing since they were not even wet anymore, but had just turned into stains. We've had a few days of 100+ heat that dried them up quick. So now I have these four stains that will likely need to be pressure washed or cleaned with some industrial grade cleaner. I'm not going to bother with this company again since I think they will likely fix one problem while adding two more. Buyer beware!
