Carol M.
Jan 2013
It started out well enough. This was a large project complete with architectural drawings. Fredrickson submitted a formal bid. They were not the cheapest, nor the most expensive. There were separate masonry, electrical and plumbing contractors, not affiliated with Fredrickson. We stressed that it was important that they work clean as we have pets and did not want nails left strewn about. The project started on time. Mr. Fredrickson had stated that he would be here thru a majority of the project. He was largely here during the garage construction and that seemed to go as scheduled. Once the framing and rough work on the house was largely completed, Mr, Fredrickson was on site less and less. There's where the issues started. His crew were not at all professional. The left large piles of debris around which I had to clean up. There were boards left with nails sticking up. The crew began to be really sloppy on the siding - and this was expensive hardy plank, not vinyl. They "forgot" to put house wrap on one side, which I caught & they had to re-do. They left sections half complete. I had more than one arguement with them. The crew complained frequently that this job was taking too long and they were missing out on their big money - doing roofs. One of the crew had his girlfriend up on the roof, a clear safety violation. The further we went along, the worse it became. Mr. Fredrickson then began subbing in guys who were not even on his regular crew. His brother, who was here at one point and seemed pretty good, was not at all happy with the work he saw. The project was supposed to be done in July, 2011, then it became August, then September. Finally, after yet another issue, the crew & Mr Fredrickson walked off the job (quit) on 10/3. Nothing on the inside of the house had been completed. I had a professional home inspector come in and he advised me to do 2 things - call Mike Holmes (Holmes on Homes) and a good attorney. The work was, in his opinion, shoddy as well as incomplete. Walls were crooked, the ceilings leaked, a second story room was not adequately attached nor insulated. The list goes on and on. I had to hire another contractor to come in and fix all the mistakes and finish the job. The second contractor - who did a stellar job - was embarassed for the profession at what he found. Fredrickson Construction should be avoided. He & his crew were unprofessional, did not do a good job, and cost more money to fix than it ever should have.
