Insurance Agencies
A local Fort Madison insurance company just recently lost our business after over 5 faithful years of loyalty and plentiful premiums, why you might ask? Let me explain the story...
(Albers Insurance Agency - National coverage written and carried under Progressive Insurance)
The back story...I convinced my wife to switch our auto insurance to a different carrier, someone I knew personally, and a national company in which I never had any troubles...always came through dealing with claims.
However, after a few years with this company and agent...we started to feel neglected and wondered if our money was being taken for granted, if we were getting the best value for our dollar, and more importantly...did we have the proper amount of auto insurance coverage?
Moving forward, after several months of our premiums going up, with no accidents or tickets, we reached out to our local agent...this was not our first attempt to ask questions, get information, find out if this agent was working for us or was our money just working for him? If you know what I mean...
(my business just landed in his lap, he never recruited me, he never did anything to garner or keep our business, EVER!)
So...as anyone would do, we inquired about our premiums, asked questions about our increased rates, and tried to get any information about other companies, quotes, etc...basically we were putting in more work than our agent was...and he never said,
"what is wrong?" or "why are you shopping policies?" or "what can I do to to keep your business?" Zip - Nada - Zero - Zilch!
Furthermore, this so called friend and professional...actually got defensive and did the absolute bare minimum in getting back to us with anything resembling significant information to help us make a better informed decision to NOT switch our auto insurance business to another company and agent...we have since switched and our policy with him will terminate on 5/10/2015!
====================Highlights=============================
~Agent never proactively reached out to us in over 5 years.
~Agent never did or said anything to appreciate our business.
~Agent never was able to explain rate increases.
~Agent never asked us why we were shopping rates.
~Agent never asked what he could do to keep our business.
~Agent never delivered proper information on requested quotes.
~Agent was defensive and argumentative anytime we asked questions.
~Agent and agency had us on dangerously low coverages.
~Agent and agency cost us $30/month more versus competition.
~Agent and agency cost us roughly $300/a year X 5/yrs=$1500 in excessive premiums.
~Never did STEVE work at keeping our business, not one proactive call to inquire about us or our coverage in 5yrs, NEVER!
=========================================================
Total premiums paid over the 5 year span around $7500
