The job was supposed to take two to three weeks but it took over nine weeks. The contractor opened up the roof, exposing the home to the elements. It rained and we had damage to the inside of the house. Our hard wood floor buckled and when I tried to call they would not answer their phone. It rained for three days in the evening not all day long, only in the evenings. I tried to capture as much of the water as I could, I had a flood and they did not show up at all. I kept calling and leaving messages, they never got back to me. When they did show up they said they would take care of it. I tried to explain to them that it was fine but how they are going to repair the flooring. First off this flooring is not longer made because we had it checked into that on a different project. He said that he would find it and that is no problem. The actual workmanship was okay though one can find little mistakes here and there throughout the construction but it took twice as long as it should have. Always gave excuses. The place was a pit while he was doing the construction. He did not clean up after himself. The big thing was that I had damage inside the house . He wanted me to make the final payment which I refused to do. He told me to just pay him $600 and use the other $600 towards fixing the floor. I asked if he was not fixing the floor and I advised him to turned it into the insurance company which surprised him. Meanwhile I had called in a couple of floor experts on how to fix the floor and for their advice on the floor. They informed me that they no longer make it and even if they did it won’t match because it is right in front of the window, the sliding door and it is going to be sun faded so it is not going to match. So I asked them whether I should replace the whole thing from the front door to the back door and if I want to match that is correct. So I got prices for that. The low price was $5500 for them to do the work. I told the roofing contractor what was going on and told him that I am not paying anymore until I see his insurance company. He did sent his insurance company agent out here. I had a lot of difficulty with him saying that he was not going to replace the entire floor but I insisted that the whole floor needs to be changed because it is no longer made. He said that he would stain it down to the right color which I refused. He wanted me to settle when I told him that since I am not in an area which I am not very confident about I would contact my insurance company and let them involve because they are better at this than I am which again surprised them. So I called my insurance company and there was one conversation with the adjuster who called back and said that he would like to settle this and he was willing to give me $5500. He wanted to write a check the same day and be done with it. I called my insurance company who advised me to go ahead with it and thus it was settled for $5500. But the issue boils down to the hassle we had to go through to have the floor repaired. We had it replaced and that means we had to move all these appliances which is a hassle and they did a good job but it was a pain. It took them two and half days to do it because one has to tear it out and put it back in. It boils down to that he should never have opened the roof up unless he had the roofer right there. The roofer was not there. The thing that irritated me was that when I had a conversation with him before construction I voiced my concern about opening up the roof and exposing the place to leaks and that is exactly what happened. I get a massive leak. I would never recommend him at all.
Description of Work: Last year in July we had Home Stretch Construction to put a roof over our deck and tied it into the house.
