BASEMENT REMODELING EXPERTS

Mark is awesome! We interviewed 6 contractors. Mark was the first one interviewed and was the runner up after we talked to all 6 contractors. We called the 2 we liked to learn more to decide. We talked to Mark 2 times. First time he did not pick up the phone but called us back in 5 minutes. The second time he picked it up right away. Both times he was really responsive and patient to all our follow up questions. He listened to our vision carefully, and instead of either follow the customer completely or bluntly say can’t do, he exercised his expertise to accommodate us as much as possible, tried to find the most cost effective way to do it, while not hesitate to tell you something may not be a good idea. The other contractor, did not reply our phone call for 3 days and during the call was basically like we’ve gone over everything and we can talk more details if you choose me. Over the course we were really satisfied. We had some uncertainty about the bathroom layout. Mark cut paper to the exact size and draw the toilet, shower and sink on it to show us all the choices. Mark shopped around multiple times to bring us various samples to match our upstairs doors, trims as close as possible. He proposed to carve an arch on the ceiling to add a variation to our layout plan. He kept the work area clean and organized. The project was finished as scheduled. On the payments, the first payment was not due after 1/3 of the work had been completed.

Mark is the owner of Basement Finishing Experts. We really enjoyed working with Mark. Our basement is about 2100 sq ft of never finished area in our 20-year-old home. We really didn’t know what to expect or how to proceed. Some of the space was going to be a new office with heavy computer use and with a bathroom. Mark came out, looked over the project, listened to our ideas and added a lot of great suggestions. He was really the expert in suggesting things that could be done with the space we had that would add maximum value to our home. After he gathered all the information, he gave us a quote and timeline to do the work. He said it is his goal to never over promise and to always deliver on his promises. He seemed like a very nice guy but the proof would be in the coming weeks. The start date was set for November 1 and at 8 AM, Mark was there with the rough-in plumber. The work was started on time. Mark said he would be mostly finished by the end of the year. Actually, all work was finished on December 29 as Mark was there doing the final touch up work. We started moving in the next day. Thank you Mark. In the end, the project was started on time, ended before schedule, was on budget and there were no surprises materially or financially. The days between the start and finish of the project were delightful. Mark was very easy to work with and friendly every step of the way. He was always aware of every aspect of the job and had materials on site and ready for the workers so there would be not wasted time or delays. He went out of his way to get us the best prices on the items we selected and passed those savings on to us. During the work, he made sure the job site was organized and clean, minimizing the dust as much as possible. I appreciate that Mark only does basements. It is specialty work and he has perfected it. The crews Mark hires to do some of the work are as good as he is. They have worked with him for many, many years and the trust and report he has with them pays big dividends in projects like this. His crews were a positive reflection on Mark and his management skills. Since we were living upstairs as the work was in progress, we developed a close relationship with Mark, his crews and each step of the project. If we had another basement project to do, we would definitely chose Mark and the Basement Finishing Experts to do it. I will be telling all our friends what a great job he did and will gladly show off his work.

Day 6 of Thanksgiving AND a recommendation for a basement remodeling company:) Two years after moving into our home, we decided to finish our basement. My main concern was finding someone trustworthy as they would be in our home almost daily. After meeting with several contractors, we chose Mark Murray from Basement Remodeling Experts. How did we choose? Well, here is my list! - honesty - didn't sugar coat anything, we either could/should or coudn't/shouldn't do something - thorough with every detail - extensive knowledge in all details of the basement completion - prompt with estimate, references and permits - Mark has sub contractors that he has worked with for over 15 years Once the basement project began, Mark provided estimate time frames, detailed information on steps and schedules involved, kept us informed of any changes, provided daily contact when necessary, replied to questions immediately regardless of the time of day, and displayed complete professionalism during all interactions:) BUT, what stands out most is Mark's patience with our many additional requests and never complaining once... he just made it happen:) Mark was more than fair in pricing and extremely thorough in all project decisions. Mark and his team were fabulous! Professional, courteous, and totally responsive. Mark went above and beyond in everything we wanted done. He stuck to the timeline and the quote he gave us was exact. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to finish their basement!

They got started even earlier than planned and worked almost every business day for 8 weeks. They were extremely courteous and professional. They kept the job site incredibly clean and were very unobtrusive. The basement turned out great! As the project went along Mark had some ideas that made the space even better than it would’ve been with our original plan. He even fixed a few things around the house free of charge. He finished on time and exactly on budget. We would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to improve their basement.

Great! Finished ahead of schedule, great attention to detail. Mark kept us updated on a daily basis of progress, and all of the crew were very courteous, and even maintained my kids quiet time hours during nap time. We will hire him again if we have another project for sure.

After we got the basement cleared out (1400+ sq ft), Mark came over and reviewed what was to be done again. We decided to add a bathroom even though the house wasn't plumbed for one when it was built. After the studs were in place, the plumber came in and said we'd need an injector pit with would be an additional cost. Mark said if we still wanted to put in the bathroom, he would split the extra cost with us. We decided to put in the bathroom. Mark came out with the plumbers, introduced us and was there when they started. It took about 2 weeks for the plumbers to put in the drains. After getting the plumbing inspected, the plumbers closed up the floor. Prior to the electrical wiring, I changed my mind about the location of a doorway and asked Mark if it was possible to move it. He was very accommodating, tore out the studs, and moved the doorway. There was no additional charge to move the doorway. When the electrician came out, Mark was here. He introduced us, and had me review what I wanted with the electrician. I want to mention how trustworthy, polite and neat all the sub-contractors Mark hired were. After the electrical was put in, came the sheet rock and drywall. Then painting and finally flooring. All in all the project lasted 8 weeks. We are very, very happy with the project! We would definitely recommend Mark if you are looking to remodel your basement. Not only was he professional, everything was inspected, and his goal was to make sure we were happy and satisfied. (The playhouse turned out great. The grandkids would come over on weekends to inspect the project. They were absolutely thrilled with the final project.)

Mark has completed many projects for our family over the years.  It started with finishing our basement.  He did a quick affordable and detail job.  He has also built a shed for us. There are several other jobs he has helped us with (large and small)

All projects went well. Mark and his employees are very professional and affordable. All projects have been on or below budget. During our basement remodel Mark provided many options and ideas to make space unique and affordable. Projects have been completed on time. I would recommend Basement Experts and plan to stay in contact for future projects.

We were very happy with the work that was done. We actually felt that we were getting good value for our money. We haven't had any issues since the service was provided.

It went okay.  All of the subcontractors were excellent to work with.  They went above and beyond to accomplish the project and the plumber even helped me on another house I own.  The electrician and plumber are very familiar with Des Moines city codes.  Passed city inspections with no problems.  Top notch guys.

Mark did an excellent job, he was on time and on budget.  He did a great job working around my and the plumbers schedule and within three weeks we had a very nice basement bathroom.  Extra kudos to him as I had made a last minute change on the molding and door and he was willing to eat the extra cost to make sure I was satisfied.  I went back to previous molding, but kept the door.  This is customer service at its BEST!!

We were pleased with Mark's ideas for several options.  Mark worked hard to complete this project and is determined to please his customers.   Our neighborhood has strict rules on the neatness of one's property and Mark sometimes left items in the yard that should have been put away.  We are pleased with the finished project and have gotten many compliments on the way it looks.

Mr. Murray was prompt, cleaned up after himself. He was also very knowledgeable and courteous.
