Plumbing
I arrived home from work and noticed a leaking valve in the water line where it comes into the house. This is the valve I would use to turn off the water for the whole house. I called this plumber and despite it being 6:30 PM they sent a crew over right away. They quickly tightened down the packing nut on the valve, stopping the leak. They checked to see if it was still functional, and it was. I asked if I should get it replaced. They said eventually the valve would fail, but not right away. They recommended I replace the valve with a more reliable one, a ball valve shut off. They said it was a pretty simple replacement, any plumber could do it, and I could probably do it myself. They did not have a replacement 1 inch valve with them, but any plumber could do it as a scheduled service visit. I thanked them and that concluded the service call.
