I needed to have new countertops put in my condo and was looking for the most inexpensive way to have a good job done. I started by measuring myself and taking it to Lowes where the man in charge gave me an approximate estimate based on that. I started out by taking measurements myself and taking them to Lowes for a rough estimate. The estimate amount was doable, so I paid $35 +tax tp have someone come out and take accurate measurements before doing the job. They sent 2 young men from a local sub contractor to measure. They were friendly enough but didn't seem very knowledgable and started talking about how much 'extra' the details of the install would add to the original estimate. They also expressed concern about a problem that might come up if the drywall had been cut out to fit the current countertops and said they couldn't know for sure until they tore them out.
My final estimate was MUCH higher and a lot of confusion ensued when I asked for an explanation so I decided to call it off.
I had assumed that Briskey was expensive because it was a smaller local business but since I work close by I walked over to see what it would cost to have them do it. I worked with Lindsey, who was very knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the different types of materials and installation. She sent a man out to measure and I wasn't asked for a fee. The young man that came out was much more helpful than the 2 from before and was easily able to check out the potential installation problem the the Lowe's guys had brought up and determined that all was well.
Lindsey contacted me the next day with estimates on 2 different types of laminate that I had been looking at and they were comparable or lower than those I had gotten from Lowes. She was also very patient with me while I was trying to decide on color/style and gave me several large samples to take home. I finally chose one and scheduled the work.
They came in right on time and did an absolutely beautiful job. When I was billed, I was told that they had gotten the work done more quickly than estimated so by bill was substantially lower!
If I ever need to have countertop work again I will definitely be asking Briskey Countertops to do it :-
