Everything started out well. Jason came out and talked about our project and options and had us stop into their showroom to look over the actual windows. After deciding on the particulars, we made a 50% downpayment on the project after Buresh came out to take measurements (this was in July). We were told that it would take 6 weeks or so to have the windows manufactured and delivered.
Fast-forward to late August and we hadn't heard anything, so I called to see how things were progressing. After spending some time on hold, I was told that Brian, the owner, wanted to speak with me. Oh-oh.... It seems that our order was never completed and sent into the manufacturer. The employee responsible apparently made several of these mistakes, meaning that there were several customers whose orders were now delayed. Brian said that Buresh had no particular leverage with the manufacturer in terms of rushing the order through. He would do what he could do about that, but meanwhile offered a 50% discount on the remaining balance of the contract (a 25% discount on the total) and assured me that we would have top priority for installation once they came in. Getting a 25% break on an expensive project sounded reasonable to me, so we proceeded on that basis, expecting that it might now be late October or November when our windows would be installed.
So, the windows finally came in in early December. For some reason, the order was not quite complete. Rather than install the windows that were ready to go and wait for the additional components, Buresh chose to put our project on hold - not top priority in my mind. Suffice to say, the project was completed, after weather delays, on the 31st of December.
The installation I would have to say was top notch, and the people were very courteous and professional. I have had a hard time writing this review, much less rating various aspects from 1-5. On the one hand, I got a great price on an excellent product that was installed professionally. On the other hand, the entire process took over 6 months. Perhaps Buresh should have a better set of checks and balances so that one bad project manager can't screw up their business. Perhaps they could have started my project earlier with the completed windows that arrived in early December if for no other reason than to placate an already frustrated customer.
I would like to say that I would give them business again, but I would certainly shop around first.
The quality of the replacement windows was good, but the actual work could have been better. Took longer to do than expected and we don't think they insulated the space around the windows (as they had promised) as much as they could have. We've gotten replacement windows from another firm since then (Pella, as a matter of fact) and the installers were neater, quicker and more professional.
The replacement windows are still better than what was there.
"Thank you so much for taking the time to review us! I wish you would have brought the insulation around the windows to our attention sooner. We do offer a workmanship guarantee on all of our installations. We have grown and learned so much over the years in this industry. We are proud to announce that in 2015 we become the only Pella Certified Contractor is the state of Iowa. Partnering with such a great company has helped us ensure that our customers have the best warranties available to them. Pella's industry leading warranties on all of their products along with our Buresh workmanship guarantee ensures that the installation and product are both covered. We sincerely appreciate your business and feedback. We would love the opportunity to work with you again."
"Thank you so much for taking the time to review us!! We sincerely appreciate it!!"
On Oct. 15 I contacted Mr. Buresh to inform him that, due to a schedule opening, Anderson had been able to install the door early; also, that my concrete contractor would be pouring the new drive and patio the next week, so he could do the deck at his earliest availability. He invited me out to his showroom to finalize materials, and I made at least two trips out to his shop for that purpose, during which we went over materials and pricing in detail. On neither occasion did Mr. Buresh offer the least hint that his estimates were inaccurate for any reason. By early November I hadn't heard back from Buresh, so called his shop. He returned a call and said he would once again come to my house to review the project, now that the door and concrete work were finished. Several days later he came out with the person I assume was going to do the actual work in order to finalize plans. At no point during the visit did Buresh mention any changes to the bid based on material costs or any other factor. They left and said they would get back to me. Five weeks later I still hadn't heard back, so called Buresh for an update. His receptionist took the message and two days later, on December 17, Brian Buresh left a message on my phone to call him. I returned his call, and he informed me that the estimate was incorrect due to an error in calculating materials, which now were $2100 more than were factored in the original estimate, which would have increased the bid to well over $10,000. Instead of taking responsibility personally for the "mistake," however, he proceeded to blame some phantom employee he called "Dave," a person whom I had never met nor even heard of until then. He informed me that "Dave" had blown some other bids, and that he had fired him.
I asked Mr. Buresh to put the revised bid in writing and send it to me, which he did later that day: the "new" bid, however, was NOT for the old figure plus $2100 (approx. $10,500), but instead for $14,954.00--nearly TWICE the original. I told Mr. Buresh I would get back to him. In the meantime, I had another contractor independently price the same materials, and he returned a figure of just under $4200. Furthermore, Buresh's new "bid" included demolition, removal and disposal of my "old" deck, which doesn't exist--it's an entirely new installation over bare ground--as well as a dumpster for the demolished deck. This man had been to my house TWICE before, and knew there was nothing to demolish or take away, but apparently just threw that in anyway. I contacted Mr. Buresh on Dec. 30 and told him his services were no longer required, as I considered his business practices unethical. The only other explanation is that he's incompetent, doesn't know his own business (e.g. the price of materials) and/or can't properly train and supervise his own employees--guys like the mysterious "Dave."
All of this is documented. I feel I was jerked around both on time AND cost for this project. As indicated, it was just one component of a much larger project, the other elements of which were handled by several other contractors in a timely manner and within their bids. Here, however, I feel I was lowballed on price, then delayed until the last possible minute for installation this year when the provider sprung an outrageous increase to the bid on me. And since the footings for the deck can't be driven now until spring, given the ground is frozen, I haven't lost just the four months since I originally contacted this provider, but at least three more until the ground thaws--and that's only if I can get a contractor in early. Even if these were "honest" mistakes (as the provider claims), they are HIS mistakes none the less, and ethical businesses don't make customers pay for their mistakes.
"[Member Name Removed], I definitely appreciate the review and do think there were some things I could have done better. As I mentioned to you I had an estimator who was working for us when your estimates were prepared who is no longer with us. When I went to check final pricing for the material there were major errors and I could not honor the estimated price when the material cost for the larger deck was over the estimate price. That's when I called you and you asked me to work up a new estimate. I tried to be very honest with you, but before actual contracts are signed we always review estimates and material cost and that is when the error was found and remember we were working with a new material we haven't used and that is where the pricing mistake happened. I am very sorry this happened and will try to do better in future. If we had a signed contract I would have honored it. Brian"
"It was a pleasure to work with you! We hope all is well with the project and please feel free to contact us if you ever need our assistance."
"Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate it and look forward to assisting you with any future home improvement needs."
Brian and his team were great to work with...very professional, on time, great communication, cleaned up everything after they were done, and great price. I would not hesitate to call them in the future if I need any other exterior repairs completed.
"We are so glad that we could help!! It has been a pleasure to work with you on this project and would love the opportunity to work with you again."
"Thank you for taking the time to review us!! We are glad that you are enjoying your new patio cover and hope that you enjoy it for many years to come. We sincerely appreciate your kind words!"
"Thank you so much for taking the time to review us!! We sincerely appreciate the review!!"
and never called to apologize. This is a vendor whom I'd worked with
before and was quite happy with the job they did; yet, the second job
was much smaller and didn't seem to warrant their attention. I was not
happy to be "dissed" and will seek other vendors for this and other
jobs. They apparently prefer the big job over the small, despite my
being (or trying to be!) a repeat customer.
"I am very sorry for your experience here. In trying to research what had happened here I can't find a lot of notes in our system other than a rescheduled appt, but it was assigned to me so obviously I dropped the ball here. I am very sorry for my lack of professionalism. I am definitely not perfect for sure, but usually don't drop the ball like it seems we did here. It was a pleasure working with you on the deck prior to this mess you experienced. I did leave a message for you if your willing to help me understand what went wrong here so I can make sure it doesn't happen again. Brian Buresh"
We are going to hire them to paint our new deck.
"It was a pleasure to work with you [member name removed]. If you need us in the future please don't hesitate to give us a call. Thank you!!!!"
Went well and very professional.
"Thank you for taking the time to review us! We appreciate your business!!"
"Thank you so much for reviewing us! I apologize we had to cancel our initial appointment with you. I am glad that it all worked out. Please let us know if we can be of assistance in the future. Thank you!!!"
"Thank you so much for the review. It has certainly been a pleasure to work with you through all of your exterior home improvement needs. You have such a beautiful home and we are happy that we were given the opportunity to work with you."
Brian Buresch offered to refinish in an opaque stain and seemed genuinely concerned over the issue. We were having the house repainted and wanted to wait on colors, and by then it was late fall and then I just completely forgot to take him up on his offer. So, not fault of their own.
This is the 1st time that I have dealt with shingling a roof and replacing siding. I knew it could get pricy so I got several bids. I was lucky to work with Jason. He set up an appointment with me at my convenience within a few days. He came to my house and I expressed my concerns with the roof (part flat over porch and rest shingles). He did go onto the roof and did a inspection and determined both were in need of replacement. He then measured the house for siding. He had brought samples of shingles and siding for me to look at and gave a high level process explanation of the work. Within a week I received a call to make an appointment to come to their office to go over the bid estimate. Jason showed me a variety of siding products and explained the differences between them. He also showed me sample of shingles that I could choose between and also explained in detail the products that would be used for the flat roof. He had taken the time to write up bids for each type of product so that I would know the cost of each. I very much appreciated the information he shared with me and felt I could make an intelligent decision on what product would be best for my budget.
I give Jason an A for the following:
Responsiveness - responded to my initial call and follow up calls with questions that I had.
Punctuality - would set up a time to meet and was always on time.
Professionalism - friendly, knew his products and explained things in a manner that made sense and could understand.
Unfortunately, the price was not within my budget. Several other companies bids were more budget friendly.
I would recommend getting a bid estimate from Buresh Home Solutions - they do have excellent products and I do believe that would do a great job with installation as well.
"Thank you so much for taking the time to review us!! I have forwarded your kind words to Jason for him to see. We would love the opportunity to work with you in the future on any of your exterior home improvement needs."

I am pleased to find that this company *does* care about first impressions with their customers. Actually, they did have an appointment set up with me -- but when I called (and also e-mailed) their office to state that I had concerns about the questionnaire (which, at that time, required that all fields be filled in), the receptionist was quite firm in saying that "Everything has to be filled out before Jason can come out." I appreciate that they are trying to help narrow down the choices to save themselves and their future customers time. Even more than that, I am glad to know that they responded to my review, and made positive changes; that speaks very well of the company. I may consider contacting them again in the future.
For what it's worth, this company still sends me their e-mail "updates"/"e-mail newsletters", so... apparently their database still has my e-mail address:-).
"I am very sorry for upsetting you. The surveys we send after setting an appt our designed to help us find the best possible product for your home and they are sent prior to the first appointment so they can be discussed with myself or Jason. The budget question allows us sometimes to eliminate some products from the discussion which in turns makes the product selection easier for our customers. In searching for any info from you we were unable to locate any emails in any of our staffs email boxes or any emails that went through our site. I can't locate an appoint being set or a file that was ever created. We searched the last name through all of our systems and nothing appears so I am very sorry I can't respond to your other issues as far as communication etc. but I can apologize for you experience and I am personally sorry we do try to do the right things. After serving over 15,000 customers we do have some hiccups but always try to learn from them and I wanted to let you know we have removed the question referencing budget from the surveys because of this review it was never our intention for that question to give a customer a negative impression, but in retrospect I understand how it could come across that way."
