I never did receive a phone call from the original plumber, so the next day I called them.  I was told the employee who answers  the after hours phone had some sort of family issue and "forgot" to take the after hours phone with her.  Now, I certainly understand that people have things come up.  But in the plumbing industry, it is standard practice to provide emergency, after hours service.  I would think there would be policies in place to make sure the phone is answered, not just dependent on one person.  But due to the fact they did not, I had to pay a new plumber approx. $580 to provide an emergency service and install a new pump.  Since the pump was under warranty, had the original plumber answered their phone, my costs would have been much lower.  Again, I understand people have things come up, but I believe that since the original plumber dropped the ball that night that they should reimburse me the costs I had to incur due to them not answering their phone.  I was first directed to a manager of the plumbers in their office who said he was sorry their lady did not answer, but he was shocked at how much the new plumber charged me and there was no way he was reimbursing me that.  I called again and asked for a service manager.  After a number of days, the manager agreed to pay me back a very small portion, the cost of which they pay for a pump.  Yes, I know humans make mistakes, but I believe the plumber should have reimbursed me the entire amount I had to pay that night due to their negligence.

This company was second option under Iowa Reality's Home Service Warranity, as fist choice was unavailable.  Problem was a malfunctioning kitchen faucet.  The individual came to the kitchen, fiddled for a time and showed me it was OK.  Within several days the problem was back and in addition the hot water wasn't working correctly and I began to see leaks under the sink. I replied to an email inquiry from the Warranty company that it wasn't fixed and to date have had no reply.  Will have to hire a plumber on my own outside the warranty to solve the problem.

Rhiners installed the air conditioner in 2008.  I called Rhiners when the air conditioner started tripping the circuit breaker.  They came out and cleaned it and said that would fix the problem.  It didn't.  I called again and they replaced some minor part and said that would fix the problem.  It didn't.  I called again and they determined that the circuit breaker must be bad but they couldn't replace it and I would have to call an electrician.  I called an electrician (another charge) and he said there was nothing wrong with the circuit breaker.  I called Rhiners again and they determined that the compressor was shorted out to ground and would have to be replaced. They were unable to get another compressor and had to replace the entire unit.  So...after two mis-diagnosis and an unnecessary visit from an electirian...my (4 year old, fully under warranty) air conditioner was repaired (replaced) at a cost of $470. I tried to reason with them but with no success.

Called for repair on Thursday tech showed up Friday and found corroded part that was not available until Monday. Monday AM was informed the part was $600 and that a new more efficient unit was a better option. Received a quote on Tuesday and unit was installed on Wednesday. The tech/installer was the same person and seemed very good. The HVAC part of this company has just a couple of people so the could be a problem in times of big demand

OK. I normally don't write reviews of anything, but this is practically criminal.
We had a small leak under the sink, since I couldn't identify it, we called Bill Rhiner Plumbing. The are located 2.2 miles from my home. We were scheduled between 2-4, he showed up before noon and phoned us because no one answered the door. When he came at the correct time to do the work, he identified the problem and tightened a nut, all in 5 minutes.
The bill for this service? Drum roll please!
$136.21You got it, ONE HUNDRED THIRTY SIX DOLLARS and twenty one cents!!
This is for driving two miles and working for 5 minutes. If there is a minimum trip charge of $39 and $90 minimum labor charge, it might be wise to discuss this with a customer before scheduling a non-emergency trip. Obviously they will not be my trusted plumber in the future.

The experience was good. They told me that the water heater only lasts about 10 years or so. They gave me the information I needed and I have like their service. They did a real professional job.

I had a leak from a sink so had turned off the shut off valve to repair the faucet, which had been working before I turned if off. I replaced the seal inside the faucet, thinking this was the source of the leak. When I tried to turn the shut off valve back on, the valve knob turned but the water did not come back on. Called Rhiner Brothers to fix the shut off valve, which seemed to have been blocked when it was turned off. Set up an appointment and they actually called first and arrived early, so promptness was not a problem. The plumber looked at the situation, then got pliers and replaced the aerator on the faucet. That was all it needed. It was a simple fix I could have done myself for about $4 (if I'd known that was the problem). The shock came with the bill. I was grateful I didn't need major pipe repair but...the bill for this job was $142. It seems they automatically charge a $38 "trip fee" (no matter how close you live to them) and $89 for an hour of time, even though the job took less than 10 minutes. He also charged $10 for an aerator, which is a part one can purchase at any retail store for less than half that price. While I appreciated the punctuality, the service guy barely spoke to me and the price was beyond outrageous. Most service people will charge for the quarter hour or half hour. Not Rhiner Brothers. They automatically charge for a full hour. So expect to spend at least $130, no matter how big or small the job is. There are several Rhiners in the plumbing business in the Des Moines area. I believe they are related but some may be different than others. All I know is that I will never again call any Rhiner for a plumbing job.

Discovered a wet spot on the carpet in the basement under the water meter. There appeared to be a slow leak at the water meter. Called on Monday and made an appointment for the next day between 10 a.m. and noon. The plumber arrived during the scheduled time. He looked at the meter, tightened the packing nuts and told us that under company policy we would be charged $35.00 for a trip charge, $89.50 for the minimum hour charge, and $7.47 tax. He was apologetic but said he was obliged to charge the minimum company fees. We called his office immediately to see if an adjustment could be made considering that it took only a few minutes and no parts. They said they were sorry, but their policy was to charge the trip fee and full hour of work. It appears there is no flexibility when dealing with this company, so be prepared to pay full price whether the fix takes 1 minute or 1 hour, plus a trip charge and tax.
