They determined that the diagnostics couldn't be run until they put in a new encoder motor, because it wasn't registering on their equipment. They were very fair about it. They said they if the motor wasn't the root cause, they wouldn't charge me for it. Ultimately it was the motor and a switch. Overall I'm very happy with how fast they were, and how much they communicated with me. The only issue I have is, in my case, the cost for the replacement of these two parts seem very high. In researching the issue, prior to taking it in, I found replacement parts for around $200-$300. So I think the cost to replace those two parts should have been cheaper. If the invoice broke it down more, I would be more inclined to accept it.

He's honest and he knows what he's doing. He does not try to push additional repairs. His price is fairly reasonable and he's punctual.

No complaints. They did a professional job. The work was satisfactory. They should have no reservations about giving service.

The mechanics at John's Automotive Svc are good. They diagnosed the problem and it turned out the cars battery was arching and would not connect. The other problem was that the dash lights came on when I put the glaze on during the day on so they traced that down to a defective tail light. I don't know how they got there but it took them only half hour to figure it out. The other big thing about them is that they are honest and they don't try to push things on me which I don't need. Their prices are competitive. They are not cheap but their work is good and the big thing with me is honesty.

Dropped our car off in the evening after hours. They called us late morning on the next day describing what was wrong and what needed to be replaced. They did a good job of explaining everything. We told them to do the work and picked up the car shortly thereafter. Have not had any problems since.

After my mechanic retired, I tried a couple new mechanics before finding a great one: John's Automotive. I had had a couple bad experiences with the other couple I tried, so was skeptical walking into John's. Suffice it to say, I was delighted. I have had my car there three times now, and have been thrilled each time. They do what they promise each time, and never find little extras that I "really should take care of" (i.e. unnecessary work to line their pockets more). The bill is always close to the estimate or even under the estimate. They always explain the options that can be taken with a particular problem, patiently explaining things in layman's terms that non-mechanics can understand. On the other hand, I brought an automotive mechanically-oriented friend with me, and they did not talk down to him at all. He was very pleased with them, as well. They give advice as to which way to go when asked, but don't pressure you one way or the other. They never perform extra work without asking first.
Bottom line: I trust them implicitly, which is getting more and more rare in the automotive repair business. I'm so thankful I found them.
P.S. John's is clear on the other side of the city from me, but I've found that it's worth the extra drive for a great mechanic. I will definitely maintain a relationship with them.
