Cedar Rapids Tuffy - 1st Avenue SE

I brought my Chevrolet HHR into Cedar Rapids Tuffy for a standard oil change. My and quot;check engineand quot; light was also on, so I also asked the gentleman working at the desk if he could also have someone take a look to figure out why it might be on. I explained that the and quot;check engineand quot; light had been on for several months and I hadn't noticed any problems. Since Tuffy wasn't that busy when I dropped it off, I decided to run across the street to a nearby convenience store to get a drink and snack and told the gentleman I would be back in a half hour or so. I returned to Tuffy about 30 or 40 minutes later and the gentleman at the desk explained my car was ready to go. He told me the oil change had been completed and they had run a free engine analysis on my car. He explained that the engine light was on but the engine analyzer hadn't identified a problem. He told me he had called a local Chevy dealer and that the and quot;check engineand quot; light could be on simply due to it not being cleared the last time the car engine was worked on. He also told me to call the Chevy dealer back later because the mechanic he had talked to was going to see if there were any recalls on my particular year and model that could be the cause of the check engine light being on. The Tuffy gentleman also explained that they could look into the engine more, but that it would probably be an unnecessary expense since I wasn't having any problems with the car while driving it. I thanked the gentleman at Tuffy, paid for the oil change and left. I subsequently found out there were no recalls so I continued driving with the check engine light on for a few months.. I was able to get a code off of an analyzer I purchased a few months later and found out that the and quot;check engineand quot; light was on due to dust in the solenoid adjacent to the gas tank. It turns out this can be fairly common with Chevy HHRs. So needless to say I was VERY impressed with the both the automotive and customer services I received at CR Tuffy. The gentleman at the desk was perfectly honest. He told me they could work delve deep and find a solution to the and quot;check engineand quot; light, but he also told me this could get expensive. I was happy that he explained my options fully and guided me in the right direction. The gentleman at Tuffy could have recommended they look deeper into the problem, probably at a high cost, but instead he explained that since the car was running OK, it wasn't necessary to spend money on unneeded services. I am usually leery of automotive garages and mechanics since I'm not very mechanically-minded myself. However, I'm not leery about Cedar Rapids Tuffy at all! I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone I know. I appreciate the honesty and great service I received. Thank CR Tuffy!

I took my 2009 Nissan Altima in for a routine Oil Change. Tuffy's offers a great oil change package that includes tire rotation and fluid top-off's. During their Tire rotation they informed me that i was in dire need of REPLACING my rear rotors, all break pads, and fluid flush that goes with it at the tune of over $700. My car only has 42K miles on it. The premium service package from the dealer doesn't even call for an inspection on rotors and breaks until 52K miles. I also just had the car looked at by a different trusted mechanic only three months prior when i purchased the vehicle. They said that the breaks checked out. I was a little confused why all of a sudden i was in and quot;dire Needand quot; to replace everything.
I declined the service because it seemed suspicious and I wanted to get a second opinion.
In the waiting room, i learned that the manager was new in town and we chit-chated about iowa. He had only been here 8 days. Then while i was waiting for them to finish my oil change i heard the manager on the phone with corporate talking about quota. He said, and quot;Yeah, well we had a pretty good day. If this lady would've payed for her breaks we would have been at $12,000. But without that we came in at pretty much what we were thinking. I'm exited about all this, i think it's going to be a good run.and quot;
He told me i was in and quot;Dire Needand quot; for QUOTA!!!! What an INSULT!!!! I will never go to this Tuffy's again. I am very disappointed. I payed for my oil change and left.
Tuffy's, if you bring in a hot shot manager from Missouri again, make sure you tell him to CLOSE THE DOOR before he talks to your corporate people about quota again. You just lost a customer.
