Fortunately, it's possible to get the screen replaced. You can buy the parts online, but if you lack anything resembling mechanical skill (like I do), it's a pretty overwhelming task. Fortunately, Chad fixes iPhone screens, home keys, and a variety of other malfunctions for very reasonable prices.
I dropped off the phone, and it took him ~1 hour to fix, even less than the 2 hour window i expected.
Very easy, and it's working wonderfully. It's money well spent.
