Quick estimate, quick schedule, painless process.

I first spoke with Dan(?) at one of the home & garden shows.  He was incredibly friendly & responded very positively when I talked about the sunken sidewalk & concrete steps.  This house was a foreclosed home that I was flipping, so I needed the job to look nice, eliminate the current trip hazard, and still be inexpensive.  I had a few estimates, all were very similar, but I chose A1 because of how friendly Dan was at the home show.  When I called to hire him, he said they would just stop by the NEXT DAY and leave the invoice inside the front door. I hadn't even signed anything or paid anything yet!  It has been almost a year (finally closing on the sale of this house in January) and the quality of work has held up just the same as when it was first done, so I would hire him again.  In fact I have already recommended A1 to another friend of mine who is a real estate investor.

It worked out pretty well. They returned my phone call, came when they said they were going to come, gave me an estimate and were upfront about their time schedule. The workers were nice, did their job and left when they were done.

We submitted a request for free estimate on A1's website including pics of sunken sidewalk. A1 responded quickly to email and also with estimate that was left in our front door. Their estimate seemed very reasonable and they were very quick to answer all questions we asked them thru email.  We were originally scheduled to have work done October 21, they rescheduled several times and the work was completed today,  November 8.  Invoice was left in door as we did not need to be home when work was done. Invoice was for original estimate of $240.00.  Sidewalk looks nice and area was clean.

The person showed up on time for the appointment and it went pretty quick.  I had another company out before them to give me a bid so I had a starting point in mind as far the price.  The base bid from A1 was almost twice the bid I had already received and the A1 guy didn't say anything about sealing the joints or addressing any of the "trim pieces" once the stairs were medhjacked.  It seemed that each question I asked resulted in him adding more costs to the bid.  The man was very nice, but I just decided that they weren't the right company for me.

They were very good. They were thorough and fair in terms of price. I looked them up on Angie’s List and saw that they got good report. I would use them again if I need to.

Nearly every house in our neighborhood has had problems with concrete sinking, but ours was not as bad as some. I waited for several years for it to subside, and then called for estimates. During the bid process, these guys had the best price, similar guarantee, good references, and were very professional and personable. 

The work was done soon after I made the decision. They found voids where I did not expect them, and did a very good and perfectly reasonable job of leveling multiple sections. Pool table perfection is not possible, so adjust your expectations accordingly. I absolutely believe they did the best job possible.

My work was accomplished by one person operating a rig that was amazingly clean and well cared for. The person that gave me the quote showed up about half way through the job, and helped with the final clean-up (hosing things off). It turned out they were father and son, and great guys. After 8 months and the winter freeze, it has moved slightly, but not more than 1/8 inch or so. I am very pleased that the tripping hazards are gone, and snow removal was a breeze this year. Money well spent.

All appointments were on time, work was done on time, workers polite, well mannered, answered my questions, cleaned up after the work was done, Best of all, the rainwater is no longer running directly into my foundation. By having A1 do this work, I saved 1,000s of dollars. I will be recommending A-1 Concrete of Ankeny to anyone with sinking concrete problems

The workmen who performed the leveling broke off about a 3 foot section of one of the six sections of concrete. The workman then collected payment for their work without telling me what had happened. I saw the workers trying to get packed up and gone before I noticed what had happened. When I came outside one of the workers turned around and left immediately. The boss came over and tried to make excuses like "it was already broken, you just could not see it before." And "we are not responsible for cracks." They also caulked the spaces between the 6 sections of concrete. Instead of cleaning their mess, they wiped their excess caulk on the driveway and in the grass in numerous locations. A1 refuses to take any responsibility for the work they performed, or to even attempt or offer a remedy to the situation.
