Description of Work: Remodeled bathroom, moved two walls and two doorways. The quality of the work was generally good, but there were days and weeks that nothing got done.

This review must be meant for another company as I have not performed any work for this Angie's List customer or at this address. I've called Angie's List at least 5 times for almost 2 months now and every time they say they will take care of it and as of 1-22-2015, nothing has been done. Frustrating that a sight which is driven by reviews does not take the time to verify reviews or fix them in a timely manner.

We used this company before so we had a hex with them. This time I wasn't as pleased as I felt there was lack of communication. The job still is not completed due to lack of follow through and planning for the holiday impact.

He was exceptionally helpful, and made good suggestions, which improved the design. His team seemed extremely hardworking, courteous and respectful -- a nice group of workers. The final job exceeded our expectations. It has been two years now, and we have had no problems at all, and received a lot of nice compliments from people who visit. I would highly recommend Hickory Construction.
Description of Work: Ben and his team tore down our old deck and built a new covered, screened in porch.

Not very well.
Description of Work: Tried to get estimates on a screened-in porch and freestanding wood carport w/storage. He was prompt in coming out and measuring but never drew up the plans, although kept saying he was going to and putting out future 'ready' dates. Started this late January - - finally gave up and went elsewhere latter part of March after a number of tries with no response - - he was too busy to attend to it. My request for start date of April 1 - 15 never got any reaction, until the last time I brought it up and was told mid- to end of May start date. Another reason to go elsewhere . . . .

Response from Hickory Construction Inc
My first meeting with Member was the end of January and I enjoyed talking with her. We met for over an hour and I went over her plans and took measurements. We discussed the different options and I voiced my concerns that the location of her proposed project may be in violation of the property set-back. She said she would check with her local city officials and her trailer court association. In late February I received an email from Member to hold off on any plans. It was determined that her planned structure would meet the set back regulations and that she wanted to re-think things. After Member decided what she wanted to do, I informed her I had to delay the starting date. This was due to the current project I was working on. After hearing this, Member said she wanted to think about it and would get back to me. After waiting over two weeks she sent a nice reply stating that she found another contractor. I was disappointed and did not realize the delayed start date would create this outcome until it was too late. When we first met in January I did not commit to a start date but rather gave an estimated start date of April. As it turned out, the job I was working on at the time, which started as a small remodel project, grew into an almost entire house remodel. Because this is the nature of the remodeling business, it’s my practice to give priority to job’s that are in the construction phase and finish it before moving on to the next. This forces me to occasionally reschedule any following jobs and is why I cannot give exact start dates. Besides phone calls, between the two of us we sent and received over 20 emails discussing property lines and plan changes. Most of her emails were replied to in a day or two, some the same day and one four days later. I worked hard so that she felt our line of communication was never closed. My hope is that this response explains the situation better and does not reflect badly on Member. I enjoyed working for her and was looking forward to her project. I’m sorry I did not explain well enough how our scheduling is impacted by current jobs and plan to make this the first thing discussed with future customers. Ben Kellen Owner

Ben Kellen is a terrific carpenter/contractor. He listens to your ideas, and works to make sure that the final product meets your needs. He is timely, his bids are accurate, and is a joy to work with. I have recommended Hickory Construction to other friends and each of them will attest to his quality work, attention to detail, and fulfilling your dream.
Description of Work: In 2009, we completely remodeling the basement. Hickory Construction assisted in the planning and layout, coordinated the demolition, and remodeling that included a new bathroom, a new room configuration, egress window, new ceilings, and completely new living space. We used Hickory Construction in 2006 to add a third stall to our existing garage. After this initial experience, we knew that we would use them on any other remodeling needs.
