I wasn't actually present but I did talk to him on the phone while he was working on the unit.  He said the compressor was shot and a new one would cost BALL PARK $1800 but I could get a whole new unit for BALL PARK  $2000 - 2500.  He said I could have my regular company come out and check it.  He said his company wasn't a Trane dealer.
I must say that my regular company couldn't even begin to schedule me until sometime next week.  I found this company in the yellow pages.  They couldn't get here until after 6 PM (which certainly beats maybe next week) so I said come ahead, so this was at the end of a very hot (high 90's) day and I assume he'd worked hard all day.

It was the hottest day of the summer, so far, and my AC kept freezing up. Brent (Precision Comfort Heating and Cooling) was able to get to my house within 1 hours of calling him.  I told Brent that I think I need to have my AC lines flushed. Before Brent flushed my lines he inspected my AC system and found that my thermostat was not sending the signal to the blower on the AC which was causing my AC lines to freeze. New thermostat was only $30. He saved me serval hundred dollars by catching this before he flushed my AC lines. He was able to schedule me the same day I called on the hottest day of the year. He was very professional and clean. I will definitely be using Precision Comfort Heating and Cooling again.

I replaced an obsolete furnace.  Precision Comfort is a small shop and the owner himself did the work.  His customer service is fantastic.  He didn't mind that I wanted keep the old A/C since it still worked okay (for now), in fact he even cleaned the coils for me since they were accessible and it works better than ever now.  I have used Precision Comfort for a couple of different repairs on both my home and my rental house and I have always been VERY happy with the service I received and the price I paid.  He even helped me fix something myself over the phone once for no charge.  I'm very happy to have an HVAC provider that I know I can trust.
