I did my due diligence, thinning my list of Contractors through State Dept. of Commerce, BBB, and Angie’s List. I started out with 11 Contractors. 2 did not even return my calls about a quote for re-wiring. 2 said they would call back and never did. 1 told me they were booked for 3 wks and would call me back around then if I was still interested. 6 Contractors came and did a walk-through, of which 2 didn’t even look remotely serious about doing the rewiring. I ended up with 4 quotes detailing the work and the cost, and of them, 3 seemed to be interested enough to ask me questions in detail about the job. My contact at Alternative Electric was Bronson. He was cordial, professional, and in my opinion, very customer oriented. When I asked about PV, he quoted me a 10-panel system based on my usage. I asked about another contractor quoting me a 13-panel system, and he gave me the calculation, and said they sometimes recommend a couple more panels because usage does tend to increase after re-wiring, but based on my Electric Bill, 10-Panels would be what I needed to be at zero (I got 12). Alternative Electric was the lowest quote, but what sold me was Bronson’s Professionalism and Involvement. Of course, the references he gave, raved about them, but they seemed very credible. During the job, I had him moving and repositioning a lot of wiring, fixtures and outlets, and he was very accommodating without a gripe. They did the job while I was at work so I could only see what they did after I came home and they had gone. I even added circuits and fixtures, and he warned that they may have to charge additional for Change Orders since the estimate was based on existing wiring. That was okay, because this was my home, and I wanted things a certain way. I tried to prepare myself, because Change Orders can really escalate the cost of a job (and I figured I was really asking a lot), but when he gave me the extra bill, I thought he made a mistake because it was so small. These guys are awesome. I hope they stay in business for a long time. They are honest, competent, professional, and very customer-oriented. This is how businesses should be run.
A final note: Business has picked up for Electrical Contractors with the improved Economy, as evidenced by delayed callbacks and seeming disinterest by some Electricians. I know Alternative Electric has been busy, also, but they have still been pretty conscientious about servicing their customers and answering questions.
