SOLDAT CONSTRUCTION

Mike Soldat told us that the remodel would take 4 months. It took over a year and he still never really finished. The quality of his work could not be worse. He was terrible, and he was dishonest. In the two years since he "finished," I have spent tens of thousands of dollars having things fixed that he messed up. Here are just some of the problems we had. He tiled four showers, but he did not put water barriers behind the tiles, so I have had to tear out all four showers (and some of the bathroom floors) and redo them. During the renovation, he would tell us stories to try to get out of doing something correctly. When our bathroom fixtures were installed incorrectly, he told us that our fixtures were European, so they were supposed to look bad. I had to communicate with the manufacturer over and over to teach him how to install the fixtures. His workmanship and quality are of the lowest caliber. He cannot use a saw. His miter joints are unacceptable, which results in all of the finish work looking horrible. I had to tear out a door and several windows because of the terrible finish work and pay someone thousands of dollars to come redo the work. He seriously damaged some very old hardwood floors by dragging a 300 lb refrigerator across it, and then I had to fight him to get them repaired. He used our new super expensive kitchen sink as a utility sink for trying to dispose of epoxy grout which ruined the sink. His solution was to scrub it by hand, which seriously scratched and marred the sink. When we finally force him to replace the sink, he did a substandard job installing the new sink. In the middle of the job he would just not show up for weeks at a time. As I said before, the job was never really finished by him, and what he did do took a year. The electrical work in the kitchen was not done properly. Switch locations just to not make sense, and were not where we told him they should go. He said he did not know how to fix it, and would not call in an electrician to redo the job to make it right. Some of his subcontractors knocked down part of a wall in front of our house, and then he refused to fix it. The "punch list" was over 200 items long. He refused to fix the bulk of the things on the list. Many of the things he did "fix" were not really fixed at all. They were just covered. He yelled at my wife and tried to intimidate her if she continued to ask him to fix the things that were unsatisfactory. He stole items from my garage like tools, paint, towels, expensive paint brushes, etc. that he wanted to use on the job that we were paying him for. I tried to lock everything up, but he knew where the key was. He never succeeded in the roof repairs that he was responsible for in the contract. So I had to spend an additional $17,000 for that. There is more. Suffice it to say that if you know what is good for you, stay away from this contractor.
