COMMISSIONED WORK: where each piece piece is custom made to Client specifications. This usually involves consultation requiring several shop visits before plans can be finalized. A 50% down payment is usually required upon approval, and the balance is due upon completion. 2.) CONSIGNMENT WORK: of which there are two distinct SUB-categories: a.) EYE CANDY: Furniture with a “WOW” factor that serve as a “draw” since it attracts customers into the store, and, ... b.) MEAT & POTATOES: more sale-able items that not quite as difficult to produce, and can actually yield a modest income, hence the name, ... “Since consignment work carries a considerable premium (which goes to the Gallery), I can afford to offer these pieces directly to clients who have commissioned work from me in the past at a considerable discount, before they go off to Gallery.” ---E. Update:
Jay is extremely well-versed in the repairing of wood products. He kept me continually informed of the repairs he undertook with my table and table leaf. This allowed me to not only view what he had repaired but also advise him if I didn't like the outcome of the finish. As you can expect with a professional, my table looks better than when it was first purchased. He is an absolute professional that takes great pride not only in his technique but also in his customer service. I already recommend Jay to my friends who have damaged furniture.
It took quite a while but the results were of the highest quality workmanship and the table looks superb. Jay used basically, Curley Hawaiian Koa with figured Maple and a little bit of Ebony.
I am extremely satisfied and intend to use him again in the future for a coffee table.
He has now completed the second job, which was very complex and difficult. It cost about $300. Now we are even more impressed! His work is of extremely high quality; it is a work of art. The second job entailed a complex joint repair of a high quality antique chair with a broken leg. Once the refinishing is done his work will be invisible and the chair will be actually better than when it was new.
Jay knows what he is doing, and he does it RIGHT! His prices are extremely reasonable and he is a pleasure to work with and talk to, and makes discussing the job easy, interesting, and educational.
If you want furniture repair done and done properly, have Jay do it.
These pieces of furniture since then have sat in storage, and at one time in a leaky metal shed in the Northwest where some of the wood had bowed and separated.
Jay completely restored the furniture to it's best ability, reattached all the pieces that had long separated from moisture, added some reinforcements and had given the pieces a magnificent, and deep wood finish.
Jay was very quick and efficient to bring these pieces back to life, and I honestly think these end tables never looked as good as they do now. I have completely forgotten how beautiful and classic this furniture is! Jay is a talent craftsman, and I would definitely trust all my fine wood in his hands, the results are nothing but beautiful!
