The Gas Company found a leak in the galvanized pipe joint connection about 12 to 14 feet from the gas meter. The down side was the three other joint connections ahead of the leaking connection which had to be removed in order to tighten the fourth leaking connection.
I contacted two plumbing contractors for estimates on this repair on Monday. The first returned my call within the hour and could provide a plumber later in the week (Thursday) to provide a final estimate based on $95/hour plus any parts needed. Mason's Plumbing called back at the end of day to schedule a visit the next morning. The owner and his son showed up on time the next morning and provided an estimate which I accepted since they could complete the job the same morning.
The work was completed within an hour using some brute strength to undo the connection at the gas meter and working back to the leaking joint. They tested the connection for leaks before leaving. Overall, I was pleased with the speed of the repair and willingness to explain the test they used to check for leaks.
