Eric's Home Repairs

Eric made dozens of repairs and upgrades to my house, including replacing kitchen, bedroom and living room flooring, tiling two kitchen countertops, building an outdoor deck, repairing garage lighting, replacing gutters and reconfiguring the drainage system, modifying a kitchen cabinet to accommodate a large refrigerator, replacing ceiling fans and an outdoor sink, installing water filters, replacing an odd-sized bathroom vanity, and a lot more. When you hire Eric, you get an extremely versatile and super-competent handyman, a licensed contractor and a disciplined, creative and hard-working problem solver. Eric always shows up on time, communicates well, consistently comes up with creative solutions and gets results that will meet or exceed your expectations. I am not one given to exaggeration or false praise, and I rarely write rave reviews. You will not do better than Eric.

Eric was very responsive during the initial quoting process and remained very communicative during the entire renovation project. He stuck very close to the budget and timeline outlined in the contract, which I appreciated. My kitchen, though small, was very complex because of odd angles, etc. I live in a circle building, so no right angles. Though the cabinets were bought off the floor from Lowes, Eric needed to do some customization to make it all work. He also took out a floor-to-ceiling pantry closet in the kitchen in order to give me more counter top space. I was very pleased with the final result. The tile counter tops in the kitchen are flawless, he really did good work there. He also did nice tiling work in my bathrooms, especially the floors which turned out great. Eric did not do much finishing work (like painting, smoothing over rough or damaged walls, etc.) as that was not in the contract. I got a separate painter to do that work. All in all, I was very pleased with his workmanship and feel I lucked out in selecting such a responsible and skilled contractor. I would recommend him highly.

Performance was pretty much what you would expect from a one-man-shop sort of operation.  For tasks that Eric is good at (fixture R&R, tiling, demolition, etc.), they go pretty well.  Tasks that he is less familiar with (plumbing) take longer.  Our project took two weeks (which is reasonable for a small company in this context) and the price was competitive with other estimates that we received.

Quality of work was reasonable (good but not perfect, which is the level of work that matched our budget), and the work was completed within the promised timeframe.  One additional repair was needed later under warranty;  that was handled quickly and without any fuss or hassle.

I would not recommend hiring Eric for some types of plumbing-related tasks such as replumbing shower valves (when the connections need to be changed to a different style); you should have a licensed plumber take care of that part of the job (that is applicable to most general contractors, actually). I wouldn't have concerns about having him do fixture R&R, drain work, or similar sorts of plumbing-related tasks.

Eric worked with us to give us the best possible price. He communicated very well, by phone and e-mail.  He kept very close to the timeline and costs of the original estimate.  We were satisfied with his work and have hired him for an additional project and would definitely hire him for our future projects.

Project went extremly well.

There were a few snags such as replacement of the bath tub in the unit. Initially we decided not to replace the tub because we were worried that we wouldn't be able to find a new one that would fit the small enclosure. Once demolition started the removal of hardware on the tub revealed a hole and the apparent cause of previous leaks into the unit below ours. The tub had to be replaced. Eric shopped around and was able to find a tub that fit. After he removed the old tub he found that the previous plumbing fixtures wouldn't fit and that there was actually a large pipe from the kitchen area that ran beneath the old tub. This pipe couldn't be removed so Eric had to make some modifications to the bottom of the new tub to make it fit over the pipe and to the plumbing. This cost a little more than the original contract of course but was well worth the price because we now have a brand new tub to go along with everything else and we don't have to worry about those previous leak problems.

Eric showed up on time, worked quickly and efficiently and charged reasonable rates.
