Bottom line up front: Sandra at Associated Gemological Services provided superlative services for my wife and I.  We recommend her, without reservation.
Specifically, we needed five items of jewelry appraised for insurance purposes.  Believe me: we are not ?rich? or super wealthy (except for our love of each other ? VERY wealthy in that regard).  We just wanted to ensure good coverage on a few nice pieces I have purchased for my wife over the course of our courtship and marriage.
We?re talking solitaire earrings, small diamond pendants, etc.
One of the pieces was my wife?s uniquely crafted diamond wedding band.  We purchased the ring at a family owned specialty diamond boutique on the mainland back in 2002.  Accordingly, we were a little concerned that its inherent value would not be understood (not the "emotional" value, but rather the fact that my wife?s ring was designed and crafted by a special, well-known
diamond-ring artist).
Sandra immediately recognized the ring as special, unique, and? on par with what we were expecting for an appraisal.
Likewise, with the other jewelry, Sandra provided an excellent service experience.
Her appraisals were on par with receipts and other certifications we found subsequent to our visit at her quaint and very nice office in Honolulu.
Best of all, she was able to have the very tiny links a necklace adjusted such that my wife?s (expensive) charm pendant was made much more visible above the neckline of her various blouses and formalwear.
Bottom line: Sandra is trustworthy and definitely someone I personally recommend for any and all services related to not only appraisals, but also simple jewelry repair.   

She let us watch her work. It was very helpful. Most appraisers will have you drop it off but it was very comforting that she allowed us to wait while she worked.  Her fee was a percentage of the determined insurance value.
