Hardware & Home Improvement Stores
We picked up the flooring at the local Home depot, took the product off pallets and laid it on the ground in our enclosed garage to acclimatize the boards (as instructed). 6 boxes out of 52 showed obvious damage from either handling, shipping or storage, and were immediately returned to Home Depot for exchange.
The contractor started installation, and after laying out over 65% of the flooring discovered a defect which could only be detected under certain light - he was working in front of our full length mirror and the reflection revealed a and quot;bubbleand quot; in one of the boards. He continued laying the floor, but with a careful inspection of each piece of flooring prior to installation. He pointed out the defect to us.
Only the late afternoon sun's angle revealed the extent of the defects in the flooring. We reported the situation to Pergo and Home Depot. Pergo sent an inspector. The inspector prepared a report which was not made available to us. Pergo denied our claim.
We went to Home Depot. They offered a $200 refund and an area rug to cover the defects. Ironically, we chose the Pergo flooring for its beauty, and Pergo's reputation. The area rug will end up covering most of what we wanted exposed for the look of Hawaiian Curly Koa.
Pergo says, and quot;customers first.and quot; Home Depot encourages, and quot;do it yourselfersand quot; (we even took a class on laying laminated floors offered by Home Depot). I would not trust either of these companies again.
If I absolutely had to do this over again, I would pay the substantial difference of hiring a Home Depot referred contractor, rather than finding the best bidder. Our installer has laid hundreds of floors and is exceptionally meticulous. Yet, we could not demand that he rip out the defective materials, and re-install the flooring at his cost. Both Pergo and Home Depot refused to rectify the problem.
