After determining that we could not replace the laminate pieces due to color matching, Thomas came up with the idea to swap pieces out along the wall with the pieces that had buckled. That way, the seam would be against the wall and you wouldn't see it under the molding. This really was a great idea and theoretically one that should have worked well. However, within a couple of weeks these boards buckled at the same place in the floor as well. I reached out for Thomas on 2/6/15 to let him know (sent photos as well) what happened and asked him to call me the following week to come out and see it. He said "Yes Maam, I will call Monday 2/9/15. I never heard from him and called him twice that week asking for him to get in touch with me. This too never happened. On 2/17/15 I sent Thomas a text asking him why I hadn't heard from him and wanted to make sure he stood behind his work. He sent me a text back saying he would be at my house on Friday 2/20/15 at 11am. The day before the appointment (2/19/15) Thomas sent me a text asking if he could move my appointment to Monday 2/23/15 at 2pm. I let him know that would be fine but let's move an hour later to 3pm. He said that would work fine. Well- Monday rolls around and 7 minutes before he is supposed to be here, he sends me a text and said that there was a death in his family and could he move the appointment to Thursday 2/27. We decided on 10am. His last words were "OK, I WILL BE THERE." Thursday came and went and Thomas never showed up --- or called---nothing. I still have not heard from him.
My tile in the bathroom looks wonderful however, once I actually got in and was able to walk around and really look, there are several uneven tiles-too many for them to be replaced unfortunately. The only ones you can notice right away are the ones under the baseboards, where the gaps and unevenness are obvious. Although all the seams line up and the pattern looks great, it honestly does not look like it was professionally installed.
The same goes for my hardwoods-they LOOK wonderful. But again, there are gaps between boards where the boards are not tightly connected to the ones beside it. I believe this is because when they were laid, the younger carpenter didn't tap the boards with anything to ensure they were snugly joined-he did it all by hand. At first I thought this was the way the boards were made and that they couldn't go snug, but not all the boards are like this-only certain sections. Again, there are way too many to be fixed and when I pointed them all out him, his answer was to fill some of the gaps with a color wax used for dings and repairs. I had two other contractors come in to give me estimates on other, non related work and they pointed out that the gaps could've been prevented.
My main problem with them was the repairs that were done and the length of time it took for them to be done. They damaged several boards after they were installed-major damage to the board. Some stupid, amateur mistakes too like not putting anything down when they moved my refrigerator or dropping tools and gouging the wood. They completed the majority of the work on a Saturday, after starting on Monday. They still had to come back and do repairs to boards, put a threshhold on, seal the grout and replace all my doors. They told me they were starting a new job on Monday and would be out Monday evening to do the work. Never showed. I called and arranged for them to come out the following Monday, again they never showed. I called SEVERAL times and texted as well for TWO weeks and never received any answer. Finally after 3 weeks, I called the owner Thomas, who claimed not to know anything about the repairs. He said he was told they were all completed. Thomas assured me he would not give them anymore work to do until they completed my job. Thomas was extremely nice and helpful. Two days later I received a call from the worker asking if he could come out in a week and finish my repairs. I told him yes and he came out and after 4 weeks finally got to work. Although I had to point out several things they needed to still do that he didn't want to, most of the work was completed around 8 at night. I ended up sealing the grout and digging glue out from between the boards myself and when they finished it took me a week to get rid of all the dust from all my furniture, vents, fans and floors from the repairs.
For the price, my floors look good. They were the cheapest and could start the soonest. In hindsight, I wish I had been more vigilant when they were installing everything and made them correct the flaws right away but overall I'm satisfied.
"do you remember what the name of the man who completed work on your job.and can i come by and address the problems of install.i would of never walked away from a damage that we caused."
He did a great job. I am very happy with it. I found him to be a man of his word. I will definitely call him again!
