the arborist arrived his recommendation was to do nothing, in his opinion the
trees were healthy and pruning was not required.
When I pointed out a few area of concern and some pruning
that my wife and I had already done he gave us a few pointers.
It was very refreshing to find an honest business.
We received a pruning quote from another business for $500,
it is important to note that I do not think the first company was overcharging
buy just their opinion on work that was required.

I provided the review because I received an unsolicited call from Angie?s List. I was confused by the call and didn?t understand why Angie?s List would be contacting me now or what purpose the review would serve. Trees Plus completed the service several years ago. I was not a Angie's List member at the point in time that they called me; my membership expired at least a year ago. Overall I did not have a positive experience but considered my issues closed a few days after the work was done. The customer service rep explained to me that Trees Plus had given my name as a former customer and they wanted my feedback. Later I found out that this is part of a survey program that Angie?s list provides to its commercial customers.
Regarding the service, when I met with the owner of Trees Plus (Walter Bryd) he was very knowledgeable about trees and I trusted his recommendations regarding planting and overall tree care. His recommendations were confirmed or validated by other vendors I interviewed at the time. Walter?s expertise is the main reasons I selected Trees Plus. His estimate was accurate and included all the trees I wanted removed. The group that arrived did an adequate job cutting down the trees.
With that said, I don?t plan to use Trees Plus in the future. I say this for three reasons.
1. When I received the estimate from Trees Plus we discussed a range of outcomes of what I should expect. I raised the issues that I had discussed when we had another tree removed years earlier. We discussed things like what happens if the tree falls on my house (Trees Plus was insured and provided a certificate of insurance), an employee was hurt (Trees Plus had Workers Comp insurance), etc.
One item that was not discussed in clear terms was the potential to damage my yard when the trees were removed. I explained that I had had a very similar if not identical large tree removed several years earlier by a competitor. That removal left us with somewhat large scraping marks or abrasions from the tree trunk to the street (approximately 200 ft). This was an eye sore, but the damage was acceptable in that it was a manageable repair effort. I said at that time that I could live with similar damage or slightly more damage in the yard but I didn?t want a costly bill as a result of the service. There were no guarantees made or any commitments regarding damage or repair. But, based on that conversation I didn?t believe a significant repair bill was at all likely either. It?s obvious now that there was a gap in understanding on this issue.
The outcome of the removal was far worse than I had expected. I was left with 10-12 (10? to 24?) holes or ?indentations? along with a noticeable rut at one end of my yard and a damaged flower bed. Although I tried to repair the flower bed, over time the damage created a significant drainage problem in my yard as well as my neighbor?s. The flower bed was well established and drainage had never been and issue before this. This ended in a costly unplanned repair bill.
I raised these issues to the site coordinator immediately when I saw the holes that day. He told me that this sort of damage occurred with all large tree removal like mine?I should have expected it, that he was not prepared to do anything to correct the issues and it would be up to me to fix my yard. Follow-up on this issue was unanswered.
3. To add insult to this mess the behavior of several of the workers that day was unacceptable. A couple of the workers climbed up the stairs of my deck and I caught them teasing my dog even though I had asked to keep the workers away from the front and back doors. Beyond the behavior problems, it was difficult if not impossible to communicate with them.
As I said this work was done years ago. The category ratings reflect my opinion of the work when it was completed. A small amount of consideration on the repair or a discussion at that time would have gone a long way to resolving this problem. I was not asking Trees Plus to replace or re-landscape my backyard. I had very little grass and did not want to be unreasonable. All I wanted was for the most severe damage corrected.
I was frustrated by the impact to my yard and flower bed but angry because if these two guys had time to tease my dog they certainly could have used the time with a rake and shovel to fix the holes in my yard. I am not asking for any additional work to be done by Trees Plus at this time OR attempting to pressure Trees Plus to make any repairs or reimbursement for repairs. I?ve already completed more than 50% of the repair and can address the remaining items on my own.
"We were very sorry to hear of this situation. When the original review was posted, we were shocked because it is so out of character for us, as we always return calls for messages left for us. We are unclear, as maybe the customer called and did not leave a message because this was the first that we have heard of the situation. However, the reviewer was contacted immediately after reading the review in an attempt to gather more details and make the first steps in getting the issue resolved from two years earlier. An appointment was then scheduled for the following Saturday, May 19th, to do a walkthrough of the property. While on site, it was agreed that Trees Plus would correct the complaint, not because we felt pressured to do so, but because we felt it was the only right thing to do. After receiving the modified review, it is clear that the reviewer no longer wishes to follow through on the issues that were raised."

A 3-4 man crew came out to do the tree removal and pruning, and cleaned up afterward. My yard looked better after they left than before they arrived. The stump grinding was completed by another crew the next day. Throughout the process, Walter and his team were professional, prompt, and courteous. I think the price was reasonable for what they did. I would use this company again, and I have already recommended them to friends.

Work crew arrived on time, worked effeciently, and cleaned up after themselves. Will definitely use Trees Plus in the future.
