"Hi [Member Name Removed] -- I'm sorry about the confusion with our AR department calling more than what is appropriate. Your initial bid with the options for ridge vent and architectural shingles that you elected was over $6200 and you did have multiple sheets of rotted decking to be replaced, which ended up at $6900 for your total invoice. It appears that your insurance company covered the full cost of the replacement. We appreciate your business!"
"I'm sorry we fell short of both of our expectations here. I don't have enough information about your roof to know where Luis went wrong, but we go to [Member Information Removed] lengths to ensure we probably diagnose an issue. That's not always possible however."
Findley has show up with the scheduled date and removed and replaced the entire roof in a single day with just a few things to be done the next morning. We are completely satisfied with the end product with the exception of some nails and pieces of shingles left around the house. We end up spending a little time walking around the deck and the front of the house picking up the nails.
A different crew came on a different day, also on the exact scheduled date, to install our gutter and guards. This crew also did an excellent job. I called them for some minor fixes twice and they showed up and take care of my issues with no complaints.
We will definitely use them again for roof related services in the future.
I am glad I chose Findlay Roofing. Their experience in the roofing business was exemplified by their great service and work. From the beginning with the estimate from Jason Nichols - to the coordination and scheduling with Sandy Radtke - to the roofing crew and gutter crew I was very satisfied. When Jason came by to provide the estimate, it was done right on the spot. He knew exactly what needed to be done and how much material and cost. Other estimates I received had to use aerial photography to get the area and had to wait weeks for an estimate.. This goes to show you how experienced Jason and Findaly are. They know their stuff.
Once I accepted their proposal, Sandy Radtke did a great job coordinating and scheduling the work and materials to ensure a smooth delivery and start time. She was very helpful with material questions that arose during the scheduling process. She was fantastic to work with.
The roof install crew were punctual and started working right away. Job was completed as promised and the clean up crew did a good job with ensuring all debris was picked up and discarded. It wasn't 100% perfect but needless to say it was good enough to ensure all major debris, including nails, screws and metal scrap was cleaned up. Small broken shingle particles were hard to clean up especially in the darker hours of the evening, so that is understandable.
The gutter crew showed up as promised and did a fantastic job. They were too were punctual and took the time to answer my questions regarding the Debris Guard. They did their own clean up and did a good job as well. Not 100% perfect as I had to go around and pick up a few screws but given the amount material used, a few overlook screws isn't a big deal. They hauled away the old gutters as well.
Overall I was glad I chose Findaly. Even though their price was somewhat more that the other estimates I received, they clearly demonstrated their experience and knowledge In the roofing business, which is why I chose them.... and am glad I did. I will definitely refer anyone I can to Findlay.
"We appreciate your business and are always striving to be better; would you mind reaching out to me to specify where the communication fell short? Was it with the office rep? Technician? Estimator? Any info you can provide is appreciated! tony at roofroof.com 770-516-5806 Tony"
The previous owners of my property had done a partial roof replacement so I contracted with Findlay to replace the parts that had not been done. The contract was for replacement of shingles and there was an additional charge, noted on the estimate in small print, for replacing roof decking not visible to the estimator. The estimate also had a check box for a cost to replace tongue and groove on the soffits - this was clearly checked "No" implying there was no charge for this work. This made sense to me as any damage to the tongue and groove should have been visible to the estimator so was presumably included in the base charge.
At the conclusion of the job they told me how much roof decking was replaced and I agreed to this charge but they also told me there was a charge for the tongue and groove. I asked about this and got a few different answers (I have a string of e-mails where it was clear to me they were making it up as they went along) and they claimed it was covered by the section of the estimate that referred to "roof decking" when this section clearly referred to other materials and other work.
In my opinion this is clearly bait and switch - charging me for something that was not supposed to have a charge.
Their performance was actually worse - the tongue and groove was 4 inch tongue and groove and when they were doing the work their installer told my wife and me that he could not get 4 inch tongue and groove, only 6 inch was available, and that he had to use some other kind of wood. I went on the internet and found any number of suppliers who sell 4 inch tongue and groove. When confronted with this information somehow 4 inch tongue and groove magically appeared the next day.
By the way, I informed the company that I would pay the bill as it was not worth the aggravation but that I considered it a case of bait and switch. I also told them that I would share this information in any reviews I wrote and they did not respond to me or refute my claim in any way.
Response to provider's comments of 2/29: It is not true that the issue was two types of tongue and groove on my house. The crew chief told both me and my wife, in separate conversations, flat out that 4 inch tongue and groove could not be purchased. It had absolutely nothing to do with different types of tongue and groove. I am aware that my house has two types and the crew chief never said he could get one type and not another. Yes the wrong wood was delivered but I did not mention that in my review as the correct wood was delivered the next morning. You did not have to run around looking for tongue and groove that is not made, it is made (how else did you find it?), your company just tried to tell me it wasn't. As far as covering the cost of the wood, you estimate clearly implies that the cost of the tongue and groove is in the base quote. Charging me for it later is not a "misunderstanding" it is bait and switch.
"As someone personally involved in trying to find this tongue and groove for you, I can assure you that much effort was put into it-- even involving both owners. Your house being an older one, that's not a product that was readily available at the time of the roof replacement. It wasn't as simple as four inch versus six inch. Wish it was! You had two types of it on your house already as the original tongue and groove is no longer made... once we pointed that out to you, you were satisfied with what we brought out to your house. You are correct that Earl brought the wrong one on the first attempt -- an honest mistake. As far as "bait and switch" or the proposal being confusing-- we wish this would have been a clear conversation with you ahead of time. That said, covering the cost in the base quote or paying later on you would still be paying for the wood. The alternative would be us paying for your wood. We actually added this as a meeting sales topic for houses with exposed tongue and groove at the "soffits" (not actually a soffit) since it's the second time we've had to run around looking for some unique tongue and groove that's no longer made. All of our guys are prepared to handle this situation in the future. I'm sorry this didn't go as smoothly as we both would expect, but we do appreciate your business and feedback. Seeing as how your review is focused on this misunderstanding, I trust everything else went well and you got the roof you hired us for. If you want to discuss this further, please don't hesitate to give me a call at the office 770-516-5806 Tony"
