Filter reviews by service
money for long term fixes that someone else would benefit from. They
quickly identified the sources of my problems and fixed them the same
day. I was able to make an appointment (which I prefer to dropping of
and hoping they can get to my car that day). I would totally use them
again--now that I know where to find them. They have no visible signs
from the street and their building doesn't look like the typical garage
so we had to drive by a couple of times before we spotted them.
I did my research here on Angie's List. In fact, I joined Angie's List
to address this specific problem.. Where to find an auto service/mechanic who would do what he/she promised to do, by actually LISTENING to me and my automobile. Well, I found them!! And I have you
folks here at Angie's List to thank. I came this close to keeping my
little secret - I was afraid that telling the world about the only
service center I've EVER visited where I didn't feel ridiculed AND taken
advantage of might result in it being any more time consuming to get a
service appointment. Naively I walked into Quantum Mechanics midday on I
believe it was Tuesday Jul 30th 2013. The young man at the cleanest
mechanics front desk and waiting room I've ever seen, greeted me with a
big welcoming smile. Reluctantly he told me that I was going to have to
make an appointment and asked me the relevant information about my car.
Which, by the way is a 2004 BMW 330i sedan. I was a little surprised
when he suggested an appointment for Friday 8/9/2013; it was 10 days
away! But, I recalled all the other glowing reviews they'd received and
decided too many signs had pointed me this direction to turn back now.
During my conversation I had asked whether someone could read the OBD-II
error codes on my car just to make sure there was nothing I was going
to worsen by waiting that amount of time. I must have misunderstood him,
because I walked out the door thinking I would need to drive somewhere
else because I thought he'd said everyone in the shop was busy - and I
completely understood how they'd be busy in the middle of the morning. I
returned to my car, standing there long enough to take a quick smoke - I never smoke in the car - I know I know, I
should never smoke at all, and I'm working on that. Well, just as I was
finishing up (about five minutes later) another young man who was also
all eager smiles came out with what I knew to be an OBD-II code reader.
We stood there chatting about the computer systems in today's cars for
at least :15 while the OBD-II chomped through the data and he took the time to explain about 5-6 of the most likely
ones to be causing the errors (aka 'Check Engine Lights') my car was
showing. He was very thoughtful in his responses and I drove away a few
minutes later feeling like I had learned a lot from him.
Friday 8/9/2013 I dropped the car off as arranged and about 2-3 hours later I
received a call from the mechanic who was overseeing my repairs. I was
on the phone with him for twenty minutes as he not only explained his
proposed resolution to each of the handful of repair issues I was
knowledgeable enough to list (and trust me, that's not very much)! But
he also listed several others he felt needed to be resolved, presenting
them in a very manageable and welcome list of and quot;Urgentand quot;, and quot; Can Waitand quot;, and
and quot;Think aboutand quot; (or something close to this). It was such an incredibly
refreshing way to have this type of expense presented to you. We agreed
on the services to be completed and he told me would call me around 3:30
- 4:00PM that afternoon.
Promptly at the time he promised I received
a call from and quot;Myand quot; mechanic. He explained what was done, and said he
would really like to have the chance to drive the car a bit on the
following Monday morning. He asked whether keeping the car over the
weekend would place me in any bind (did I have access to transportation,
etc). I told him that this was my only means of mobility and without a
moments hesitation he said that was fine, they had a and quot;shop carand quot; they
kept for situations like this, and and quot;would I mind driving a Prius?and quot; Not at all!
Would I mind being offered free use of a loaner car? Are you kidding
me?! Not only did they loan it, he showed me how to drive it, as it was a
hybrid and they're a little different than the average car on the road.
Monday afternoon I received a call from my mechanic saying everything was
done, he told me the final figure and it matched the price he had
quoted. So I hopped in the little hybrid loaner and went to retrieve my
car. Again I was greeted by the two young men I had met the very first day -
the one who scheduled my appointment and the other young man who
had read the OBD-II error codes. Again they were all smiles and very
helpful. My car had been vacuumed, the exterior cleaned and it felt like
a brand new car - no joke. They had also filled all my tires with air,
and that along with the amazing service and repairs they'd completed
made me feel like I had a brand new ride!
They had not only reset the OBD-II error codes, but they had driven it enough that I was able to
drive right to the Emissions Test station to have THAT item checked off
my list of 'to do's' too! Usually that's something that can take several
days (I'm retired and don't drive nearly as much as I used to).
I can't say enough good things about this business. They have and quot;serviceand quot;
down to a science. It's obvious these guys know what it takes to make an
engine purr. They take the time to get it right. They do the little
things that make you smile, amazed that you can once again say there's a
business out there who is cornering the market on and quot;serviceand quot;.
I've never been happier to give commendation to a company in my life, and I'm
well into my 50's now! Spencer, Aaron, Chris - I know I'm leaving a
name out, and for that I'm truly sorry - THANK YOU for a job WELL DONE!!
