After I left a message, the contractor did contact me and come to my house within a timely manner. He was up front regarding the services that he and his crew could provide, and what they were not licensed to do. That level of honesty was appreciated. Although waited two weeks to receive the documents that I requested (e.g., proof of liability), he sent everything that was promised. However, I opted not to have the service performed.

The owner, Mr. Velasco, was very friendly - actually charming - and was the only contractor of 4 who agreed to do the job for the amount allowed by my insurance company. (My roof was old and had recently been damaged by hail.) He agreed to replace my roof at the insurance company's allowance, and happier still when Mr. Velasco said that his company would also install brand name, lifetime shingles! The estimates from 3 other companies were higher than my insurance company's check, and life-time shingles would have raised the price even further. I was so relieved and glad at the fact that Artech would not only do the job, but provide life-time shingles, that I was ready to sign on the dotted line right then and there. However, I then presented Mr. Velasco with an Angie's list member coupon for $400 off (for members) from any roof replacement by Artech Roofing Co. Mr. Velasco shook his head, looking at the coupon, and said that because he was going the job at such a low price, he didn't think he could give me that discount. He elaborated a bit, then asked if I was "OK" with that. Already feeling heady with relief and joy, I then felt guilty about what I began to think was "taking advantage" of Mr. Velasco if I pressed to use my coupon. I told him that it was OK if we didn't use the coupon. During one other interaction while the roofing job was going on, Mr. Velasco again asked me if it was alright that I didn't use the coupon, reminding me that he was already giving me such a low price that the coupon would really put a strain on his ability to make any money from the job. I agreed again to waive my right to use the coupon. The end result was that I ended up paying an additional $120 to Artech, beyond what my insurance agency covered for the roof replacement. It was my own fault for caving in to Mr. Velasco's plea to waive the $400 coupon. He turned on the charm, though, and emphasized his rationale for the inappropriateness of applying the coupon, considering the great deal he was giving me. I later regretted my agreement to waive the coupon. He also made a couple questioning comments about my "husband", to which I offered no reply; I am a single woman and live alone. Whatever the reason, the query made me uncomfortable. Perhaps I'm making too big a deal about $400, but that left a bad "having-been-taken-advantage-of" feeling that I have not been able to shake. As for the job, the crew came early one morning and finished late that evening! Some of the men did return the following morning to remove some debris left from the day before, but the job had essentially been completed in one day. The work contract had stipulated that all debris would be picked up, and that a magnet would be used to locate an roofing nails for disposal. There were a few small shingle particles around the yard, mostly under the eaves, and 30 or so nails, which I continue to come across (again, mostly under the eaves but a few in or near driveway). The work day was extremely hot and humid, and when I offered the workers water, they declined, saying they had brought their own. There were a couple empty wate bottles left on the site; otherwise, the crew members were polite and professional. My new roof is beautiful and appears to have been well installed. I recently noticed some moisture on a kitchen wall, and my boyfriend climbed up on the roof to make sure the chimney flashing had been secured properly. His comment was that the flashing had been very well applied, and that there was no way a leak could have occurred there. He was impressed with the workmanship of the roof materials. (We later concluded that the moisture was from condensation while boiling liquids.) All in all, I believe that I came out well; the roof installation was affordable, and I now have a lovely roof, which my neighbors have complimented. Moreover, I do not have to worry about future roof replacements, with my lifetime shingles, which is a huge relief. I had no problems with the work crew, and the work was done promptly. Although the overall price was excellent (as judged by comparison with other roofing contractors), I scored the price and professionalism each a 'C' because of the great reluctance to accept the $400 coupon, which would have made a significant difference financially to me at the time, and the pressure for me to not insist on using it. That just seemed like a bait and switch, and poor business saavy.

Arrived for estimate took pictures. Yilber then explained what was going on and what would be done. The items arrived, shingles, lumber, etc. The crew begin work the next morning. Clean up was excellent. Workers were very professional at all times and when we had a question were able to answer with our satisfaction. We had some wood that needed to replaced from a previous lead when we bought the house. I would recommend Artech Roofing.

They were were very friendly and thorough. He spent a lot of time in the attic trying to figure out the problem after is wasn't apparent to him on the roof. They worked hard and quickly, and even in the rain! I was impressed!!

I had a leaking dormer in my bonus room. I've had several 'handyman' services come out to fix the dormer and the leak had persisted. Artech's foreman came by to look at the issue and fixed it within 2 hours. Turned out to be a bit of buckled flashing underneath the siding below the dormer window. I would highly recommend this company, they did a fantastic job and saved me a lot of money in water damage repair.

The experience with Yilber was excellent. He showed up when he said, was responsive in all communication, did the work as agreed and for the agreed on price. This was a large house with steep roofs. The roof has been in place for two years now and I have had no problems of any kind.

MAY-6-2013: These people are not trustworthy. Unfortunately I chose them for a whole roof replacement. Big Mistake. HUGE. Now I am dealing with interior damage. May-29-2013 UPDATE: It looks like we will be taking this to court with the help and support of our insurance company. The Artech response is full of misrepresentations and complete bold face lies. The insurance money we received was spent on the roof replacement (in fact, we added money out of our pocket for upgrades in roof materials). Our insurance company has tried repeatedly to get Artech to honor their signed contract. In January 2013, which was about 6 months after Artech performed a whole roof replacement, we observed new water damage in our home and notified Artech. Artech sent a technician that determined the problem was a faulty chimney cap (the protective covering on top of the chimney). We verified with paperwork and our insurance, State Farm, that the whole roof replacement contract included chimney caps. We sent written request to Artech to correct the problem. They have refused even though we have a signed contract which includes the chimney caps. With the help of our insurance company (who have been very helpful in this whole ordeal) we obtained a quote to tell us how much the new interior damages are. The quote detailed the issues and determined that $4555 is needed to correct the issues (including replacing the faulty chimney caps). With the guidance of our insurance company, we sent the quote to Artech and requested the amount. Artech responded that we "did not authorize Artech to complete the work" and therefore declined to correct the problem. This is not true. They were paid to do this work, and we assumed the work was done. We never removed authorization to replace the chimney caps. Artech didn't discuss the chimney caps with us and we assumed that since they were in the contract to be replaced, they would be replaced. We certainly would not have asked Artech to forego installing something the insurance claim listed as needed without a very strong assurance that it was unnecessary. Artech took it upon themselves to skip doing that work. We couldn't tell during our final walk-around inspection with Artech that the chimney cap work wasn't done.

I called and asked the receptionist to have someone call me back and set up an appointment. She took my information and asked if I needed my roof replaced. I told her no, I just needed my gutters replaced. She sounded disappointed by the sigh on the phone and said someone would call me back. No one ever called me back. I can only assume they are interested in the large jobs and not the smaller ones. UPDATE 5/15/2013: I have been working with them since my initial review and they have been extremely apologetic for the late response and have bent over backwards to make it up to me. I am still waiting on one more quote to come in, but this company is my first choice at the moment. Yiber Velasco has been very professional and willing to go the extra distance to make me happy. I will update my post again once I have made my decision on who I will hire to replace my gutters. UPDATE 5/20/2013: I have decided to use another vendor for our gutter replacement on my home. The ONLY reason is that a contractor I have done business with in the past put me in contact with another company. ARTECH's bid was actually the lowest and best quote of the 4 I received. I would not hesitate to use this company in the future.

I've moved on to working with another contractor; he's followed through on the commitments made thus far and I'm awaiting answers to follow-up question I posed earlier last week. This contractor was also found on Angie's List.

First, my husband showed them the leak he found in the attic. They went on the roof and took pictures to show us what they found. That made it very easy for us to understand what was wrong. They also took pictures when they finished to show us the work performed. They were able to perform all the necessary repairs on the very first visit. The owner also visited while the work was being performed, and we talked to him earlier as well when the description of repairs needed was explained with the estimate. when they finished on the roof they thoroughly cleaned the area around the house from remnants of the repair. They also cleaned the gutters while on the roof. We really can't say enough good about this company. We will use Artech Roofing in the futrure when needed, and wewilll not hesitate to recommend them.

Yilber is very personable and responsive. He and one of his men came to look at our problem and give us an estimate late on a Sunday afternoon when it was almost dark and after having made 13 other calls that day. Yet they were very pleasant and took the time to explain what they found to me. The work couldn't be completed right away because to do what they had planned required warmer temperatures. But as soon as the weather got nicer, Yilber called and sent his men out the next day to perform the work. Then he, himself, stopped by the next day to ask us what we thought and hand deliver our invoice. He assured us that the next time it rains, if we still see any problems, he will come back and fix whatever is necessary. We were very happy with all the communications we had with him and the promptness of the work done. When you look at our roof, it doesn't even look like any work was done because the new shingles match the old so well! We would definitely use him again!

The Artech owner was the only roofer to give me an estimate after walking around ON the roof. He took photos that demonstrated that we had had hail damage to both the roof and to the gutters (other roofers who just looked at our steep roof from a ladder had said that we didn't). Once we had an insurance claim approved, Artech did excellent work. They installed gutters that are an inch wider than the original gutters. Thanks to the wider gutters, we are no longer having gutter "spillover" during downpours. I found Artech a competent, professional, and pleasant company to work with and would recommend them highly to anyone needing roof or gutter work.

The work, the service, and the price were outstanding. Their foreman, Gilbert, was very customer service oriented, punctual, and helpful in general.

All communication was done via email, with a few phone calls on the day of work. We weren't home to see his workers, I was hoping they would arrive before I left for work but they didn't. The shingles were dropped off on our driveway (to the side) the day before. Yilber is very professional and courteous, he has a thick accent that's more evident on the phone than in person....he makes sure he has all the information to do the job correctly. There was no money paid until after work was completed, he made a separate trip to pick up the check. I think they always take pictures of their work. (I took this pic)

I contacted Artech Roofing (Mr. Yilber Velasco) and made an appointment for Yilber to inspect our roof. Over the next several weeks, Yilber made four of five trips to our house to inspect our roof and discuss my concerns. Within three weeks of signing the contract, Artech began the job. The materials arrived on a Monday morning, and Yilber's men began work on Tuesday morning. They began by removing the old roof which they loaded into a small four wheeled dumpster. The four wheeled dumpster was used to prevent damage to the driveway. Our house has two levels with the roof area of each level about equal. It took Artech three days to re-roof the house which was very fast considering: (1) a two level house requiring 43 squares of shingles, (2) two chimneys that each intersect with two roofs, (3) approximately 250 1"x8" vertical cedar boards which had to be pried loose at the bottom to accommodate the new flashing. Yilber's men did an admirable job getting the new flashing behind the cedar boards without splitting the wood. I told Yilber that I was happy with the job his men did, but I felt that their clean up at the end of the job could have been better. Yilber was nice enough to lend me their wheeled magnet over a weekend, and I was able to pick up a nmber of nails that his crew missed. During the course of the job, Yilber interfaced with my insurance company on several occasions so by the time the job was finished I did not have to submit any paperwork. Yilber was not anxious about being paid and was nice enough to wait until my insurance company paid me before I had to pay him. Overall, Artech Roofing did an excellent job of re-roofing our house.

Crew arrived on time and completed all work. Very friendly and cared about their work. Foreman double checked everything. Really a great crew. I liked their work so much that I decided to give them a tip.

After receiving other quotes I determined Yilber and Artech were the most professional people I had spoken with. To my great surprise they were also very cost competitive; bested only by a company that wanted me to buy all the materials and haul off the old roof, paying them only for labor. I greatly preferred the Artech approach of one price for the entire job. I was impressed with how hard and steady all the workers did the job and the supervision provided by Yilber himself. I am very happy with the results and have received complements on the new roof. A neighbor has also used Artech for their new roof and is also very pleased with the entire process. I would recommend Artech to anyone looking for roofing repair or replacement.

The roof istallers called ahead to confirm and arrived on the morning scheduled. The roofing materials also arrived on time. What a great crew! They worked dilligently and upon completion made sure that the entire job site was cleaned up. They even power washed our deck. A couple of days later, the gutter replacement crew arrived. They also arrived on time, completed the work on schedule and left the work site clean and free of debri. We couldn't be more satisfied and would be happy to recomend Artech to any of our freinds and neghbors.

Mr. Velasco answered the phone and handled himself in a very professional way from the beginning of our project to the end. He gave us an estimate on the roof repairs and after finding matching shingles came back to install 4 days later. I had expressed some concern about the possibility of the roof still leaking until they came back and he placed a rubber sealer in place before he left the house. His price was in the ballpark and even gave us a senior discount, when asked. He drove approx. 40 miles twice to our house. I was impressed with him and would call him again should I need any other roofing repairs, etc...

It went really well. He was very friendly, honest, dependable, and hard working. It is nice to know that we still have people with great work ethics out there.

I recieved bids from three recommended companies. ARTEC's bid amount was very reasonable. More importantly, ARTEC included important upgrades to the quality of the shingles and underlayment and the guttering. They were very professional throughout the process. They provided prompt, thorough anwers to questions. They were provided timely responses to phone calls and email and were on time for site meetings and the job. The quality of their work exeeded my expectations and resulted in a far better roof and guttering than I had originally. They made sure we were totaly satisfied with the results of the project.

Received the estimate by email as requested two days after they visited and took measurements at my house. Estimate was a good price as compared to K Guard of East TN and HEP. After I accepted the estimate the work was scheduled to be done in about two weeks. The day the work was to be done is was raining and it had to be postponed. Was offered a discount if they could postpone it for another week and I accepted. The complete project was all done on the day promised. The workers pickup after themselves pretty good. Found just a few scraps of metal guttering around the yard. Paid in full by check four days later. I would of liked to paid by credit card, but business owner does not lke to use credit card due to the fees they charge them.

Yilber Valasco is the key that holds the Artech experience together. He came out and inspected my roof for damage. He also pointed out all the damage to the gutters that I hadn't even noticed. He was present when the insurance adjuster came out for their inspection, ensuring the adjuster didn't miss anything. It provided a lot of comfort that the guy that would be doing the work was making sure the insurance company would cover it. The actual work started on time with his crew working dawn til dusk to get it done. Yilber checked in and kept an eye that things were going as planned. Yilber clearly takes a lot of pride in his work and cared deeply that the work was done properly and to my satisfaction.

Yilber was great to deal with and he was very professional. He did everything that he said he was going to do. We had quality workmanship and his crew cleaned up at the end of each day. He made suggestions that we found helpful during the process and we always felt he was being honest with us. I would hire him again to do this kind of work.
