Everything seemed to be going OK initially until the end of the window cleaning when my wife & I finally sat down in front of our large (and very expensive) bay windows at the end of the day. TO MY HORROR, my wife and I immediately noticed a number of prominent visible scratches that were present on the glass. I immediately called Lynn Walters (the owner) and left him a message to get back to me on it and to tell him that something had gone very wrong on that.
We then started to walk through the house and observed our other windows. We were SHOCKED to find NUMEROUS SCRATCHES on a large number of them. MORE THAN ONE DOZEN (12) INDIVIDUAL WINDOWS WERE PROMINENTLY SCRATCHED. The entire point of hiring a professional window cleaning company is to AVOID exactly this situation from occurring!
All of that said - we gave them the benefit of the doubt initially and assumed that they would make good on fixing the damage that they caused. Lynn Walters comes across as a friendly person who is customer-oriented so we figured that once we showed them what happened, they would do the right thing and help us fix it. The exact opposite happened, however.
At first - neither Lynn Walters nor his employee immediately recognized the time of glass windows that we had. Then - after the fact - when it was determined to be tempered glass, Lynn mentioned that there was a "special technique" for cleaning such glass. Really? The only problem is that his employee who cleaned them had NO IDEA about the kind of glass it was and certainly didn't use any such "special technique" to clean it.
When that angle didn't work and instead of taking responsibility and offering a remedy, they then told us that none of it was actually their fault and that it was actually due to - wait for it - NEW CONSTRUCTION DEFECTS... on 14 YEAR OLD WINDOWS.
REALLY? New Construction Defects on 12 TOTALLY SEPARATE pieces of glass in different parts of the house that are 14 YEARS OLD? That just happened to spontaneously show their "new construction defects" immediately and completely coincidentally after Clear Advantage Services cleaned them? I didn't believe a word of it but just to be sure I asked several other companies and professionals in the industry and they didn't either. I won't post what their specific opinions were of what we were told by Clear Advantage but let's just say it was NOT flattering about either Clear Advantage's professionalism nor ethics.
Lynn Walters & his employee then left our house stating that they would "look into a solution" for us on the matter.
We gave them a little more benefit of the doubt but after MANY WEEKS of waiting patiently while we began the process of getting replacement and/or repair quotes to fix the damage that they caused... we never did hear back from them until I sent an e-mail indicating that we were going to be posting a review and pursuing legal action if they refused to take responsibility.
WITHOUT CALLING OR ARRANGE IN ADVANCE, Lynn Walters then showed up on our property unannounced and WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION and then contacted me back to say that "he had tried to stop by". I asked him to send his remedy for this in writing to me and he refused to send it to me and dropped the matter.
Now that the holiday season is over and the weather will start to hopefully improve, we will begin the long process of getting our windows repaired or replaced due to the damage caused to us by Clear Advantage Services and Lynn Walter. Fixing what they did to our windows will NOT be cheap but at least we know which vendor NEVER TO USE AGAIN for this kind of work.
MY OPINION - AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAQUE! THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER GOOD OPTIONS WITH SOLID POSITIVE REVIEWS ON ANGIESLIST, WHY TAKE A CHANCE AND END UP THE SAME UNFORTUNATE SITUATION THAT WE ARE HERE. TRUST ME, IT IS NOT WORTH THE HEADACHE, THE HASSLE OR THE EXPENSE.
"We clean windows the same way every time when we clean the inside glass of a house. It takes a sponge with soapy water called a strip washer to wet the window, then a rubber squeegee to clean the glass. We also take a microfiber to detail the edges, sills, and tracks. At the West's house this was the process for every window. There is No possible way for those materials to scratch glass. The major difference is that they have fine micro scratches usually from poor new construction widow cleaning caused by fabricating debris on tempered glass. You do not see these small scratches when windows are dirty, then when the sun shines through clean windows people that had forgotten they were there can blame the window cleaning company. There are countless articles on fabricating debris scratches all over the internet and its cause. When i went to discuss this with the owners I showed how every window that was scratched had a tempered label on it. I also showed them the long straight scratches that are consistent with new construction clean ups when they are removing debris from the entire window. I also reminded them we clean windows in an S pattern which was inconsistent with the long straight scratches on their windows. They agreed with my statement of how we cleaned because they had watched us, but wanted to know how the scratches got there. When I explained the fabricating debris issue the conversation ended because they wanted me to fix the problem that we had only revealed but not caused. I have been in business for over 12 years and my reputation is important to me, if we caused damage I would be the first to fix it."
I asked for the work to be done in the morning and the representative said he would try to reschedule another job to do that. I did not hear back from him, so assumed the work would be done in the morning. When no-one arrived, I called the office to find out if and when they were coming, but no-one in the office knew the cleaning team's schedule.
The cleaning team arrived in the early afternoon and told me they had not been able to reschedule the other job. The work was then performed promptly and to a high standard. The staff were courteous and helpful.
They sent Jason out on this one and he was very carefull to do a GREAT JOB
