"Thanks for the great review, [Member Name Removed]!"
The Tree Lady Company crew arrived in the morning ,on time, and began the process of taking the tree down. The tree was approx. 8 ft. from the side of my house and the crewmen were careful not to damage my house and near by fence and shed. The tree was down and hauled away by the end of the day, along with the small twigs on the ground. Good work.
I wanted an Arborist to confirm if this was true. I looked up Arborists online and decided on the Tree Lady. I did not look on Angie's list, but they are there. I made an appointment. Kim was very punctual. She did confirm that the tree has "gall", and also pointed out that the tree was "girdled". It was not planted correctly and was not growing properly.
She also told me that the 3 palms in the front yard were Washingtonians and they should never have been planted in front of the house, and I should have them removed. She was very concerned that the builder had put this type of tree here. They grow very tall and were good trees to have along highways. Eventually I would need a cherry-picker to have the trees trimmed.
At this time, I have done nothing else regarding any of the trees. The trees are about 4 years old.
One problem of course was that removing the trees also removed the pleasant green barrier between my property and my neighbor's. I knew that would happen, and that was my decision, but it was based on her advice.
The other was that, even after the trees had been removed, loam brought in, and new turf grass installed, I continued to have even worse problems with the grass, including fungus, rot, etc. Turns out that the oaks were drinking up the rain runoff from my neighbor's driveway, keeping the soil at a reasonable moisture balance. Removing them turned the space into more of a gully. So, I next had to explore better water management, which of course was an additional cost.
In retrospect, I should have stuck with my own instincts, and just had them thin out the trees to bring in more sunlight. Why not take the incremental step of thinning the tree to see what happens? The trees would still be there to absorb the rain water runoff, and my shade tolerant grass would likely have had enough sunlight to thrive. This was a real lesson learned. Removing the trees was the most drastic solution, and I will never take advice to do that again under similar circumstances.
The reason I wrote this review so many years after the work was done was because I have a new property and need some tree work done. I came to Angie's List to find a better tree company, and decided to check and see there are few reviews.
The removal team was very professional. They arrived on time, completed the job as contracted and cleaned-up the area completely.
I would definitely call them again.
