Mechanic dropped "something" in the engine causing catastrophic engine failure. Engine only had 55,000 miles on it. Mechanic kept saying he would make it right. Instead he replaced my engine with an engine he claimed was the same year and only 3,000 more miles on it. This is so unbelievable as my car had been owned by my grandmother who rarely drove it. The car was 14 years old. Got the car back after a week and I found another nut on top of the intake where it shouldn't be. Also I was down a pint of power steering fluid. Also heard an odd sound like a lifter or slight exhaust manifold leak. Took it back when the owner got back from vacation, told him of my findings. He admitted that a power steering hose fitting was loose and that they tightened it, but claimed everything else was normal. Got home and found that they hadn't even topped off the power steering reservoir. Also, Ford/mercury apparently does not put date codes on the blocks so there's no way to verify the vintage of the engine nor can I be comfortable with the reliability of the engine without an engine tear down. Very, very dissatisfied not only with the work but their response. They are obviously so small that they cannot afford to do the right thing when it counts.
