Description of Work: Subject: Buyer Beware – Project Abandoned We have been in business since 2008 and we’ve work with a good number of contractors over the years and it is extremely unusual for us to leave a negative review. We know how important it is to have a good reputation in person and online so we write this review without any maliciousness and we describe our experience in a factual way to help potential customers when making hiring decisions. We met Juan Carlos Pelaez and his wife Yuliana Merchan. We initiated a project with his company mid 2016 and as of August 2017, we have paid $37,376.50 in invoices to 3metas for developing our project. The project was never finished. We were never late in paying his company and the time of writing this review, we owe them no monies. This is a not a review about money, it is a review about lack of professionalism and business principles. We facilitated to Juan and Yuliana access to all our tools and personnel, and we did not restrict their budget range. We hired and shuffled staff as they requested, we flew in our team from South America multiple times at great expense to us to make sure Juan Carlos and Yuliana had every opportunity to build a strong team from the ground up. We are very dissatisfied with our experience with 3metas because of the way Juan Carlos and his wife abandoned our project, causing us great loss and financial harm. Instead of being upfront and expressing their intent in not working on the project, they chose to extend our suffering and drag the project along for 2 months with very little progress and lots of excuses. Juan Carlos and his wife Yuliana reported on 3 occasions that persons they hired to work on tasks related to our project quit and they explained that for that reason they were unable to advance our work and deliver on time. It seems to us after observing their company dynamic over the course of the project, that they hire people at very low rates around $12-$15/hr and push them **** ** complex tasks to their limits and eventually these people get tired of slaving and quit. We lost 3 good team members like this. Towards the end, we even offered to pay these salaries directly and at a higher rate to avoid eating away at Juan Carlos’ bottom line. We never denied 3metas the opportunity to make money and bill as long as the work was being delivered on time and on point as agreed. This high employee turnaround reflects poorly on Juan Carlos and his wife Yuliana and has caused us great harm. We certainly hope they learn the lessons from this experience. When you take someone’s money you must act responsibly and ethically. I personally believed in Juan Carlos and Yuliana’s talent and abilities so for that reason we attempted several times through meetings and calls to get the project back on track. But we got nothing more than empty promises and weeks of silence in between conversations and failed milestones. Please be careful when giving this company any work. Be very specific about completion and include strict performance and late penalties. To make matters worse, we found out through casual conversation with Juan Carlos, that he is working on a project for a company offering legal services in another state (which is similar to what we are trying to do, which is to facilitate legal transactions through digital means). This means that it is very possible that Juan Carlos and Team are working on other projects using the know-how and technology they acquired working on our project and are now selling it to the highest bidder. We are actively investigating this. It seems very questionable to sign a contract with strict non-disclosure clauses and then turnaround and sell services that make use of the acquired know-how to the highest bidder. If this were the case, then it would be in direct violation of our “work made for hire” agreement and the US Copyright Act.
