Jerry Holmes was at the home inspection we did prior to the purchase of our house June of 2012. He stated on that day that the roof was "in perfect shape and had no problems", and he stated that "the roof never had any work done". We subsequently developed a leak in the master bathroom that he repaired, and the skylight in the kitchen leaked, and two other leaks in the kitchen all developed at the same time those were repaired too. One bedroom developed leaks in the ceiling and he had to come out three different times to patch it over a period of two years. The family room leaked, his assistant came out and did part of the repair and then never returned, it rained and the leak was huge, requiring us to have to paint the whole ceiling which cost us an extra $450. I called several times complaining we had a leak emergency before getting a return call and he said he forgot to come back. Wow.
The most recent leak was again in the same place in the family room 2/15. Jerry Holmes had repaired this less than a year ago, and his bill states there is a one year warranty. I phoned him and he got nasty on the phone. We then got professional roofer company quotes from Angie's List to repair this leak of $2660, $4000, and $5000 and all recommended a new roof. We got quotes for the new roof and the roofers from each company independently told us all the patches on the roof were shoddy and used cheap materials, and the skylight was installed crooked. There was also a lot of patch work around the skylight area separate from the repair work we had done, indicating the roof was worked on BEFORE we purchased the home, and now we know why he was at the home inspection, to lie about the integrity of the roof. Now we are in the process of putting on the new roof and the skylight had to be removed, the roofer told us there was a huge amount of rotted wood all around the skylight where Jerry Holmes installed it. Holmes has clearly demonstrated poor quality workmanship.
When we got the estimate for the new roof, the foreman for one company went into the attic and inspected the area, he told us there were buckets of water up there, and a big piece of vinyl that was placed there and was full of water, he noted he saw that one other time in our neighborhood in another house. He said the prior patches were horrible work, and basically inadequate. I would give Mr. Holmes no stars if that was possible. In summary, he lied to us, refused to return phone calls, did terrible work, was very unpleasant on the phone, and refused to honor his one year warranty. Do not use him.Licensing
