We eventually got the mortgage however the process was the worst that I have ever experienced getting one.  You expect some bumps along the way that have to handled but we were repeatedly asked for things that were already provided, but that isn't the worst of it. The person we were dealing with was nice enough on the phone but failed to let us know of several critical issues. Apparently our loan was put on hold at the underwriters early on but we were not informed of this or the reason why. Eventually, it was put back on track but the appraisal was not ordered until 4 days before the closing. Again, we were not informed of this very important detail. The appraiser did not show up to the new town house until the day before the scheduled closing.  Of course there is no way that an appraisal could be done, report written, sent to CTC Mortgage then on to the underwriters for them to then review the loan package, approve it, let everyone know so that the closing could be done. Again, we were never informed of this delay.  If we had been told even 2 days before that it was unlikely that the closing would happen on time we could have made other arrangements and stayed in our old house until the close. Because we were still thinking that we could close as scheduled we moved out of our old house and incurred nearly $1400 in extra expenses for hotel room and storage fees for our furniture. When we complained later to multiple people up the line to CTC Mortgage then to their parent company up the line to the owner, our emails were either ignored until repeated requests were made or circle the wagon responses were given stating they did nothing wrong. Any real estate person that I have spoken with has been utterly astonished that the appraisal was not ordered until 4 days before the closing. Further, that we were not informed of the delay. Though we love our new Kolter town home we would never in a million years use their recommended "in house" CTC Mortgage company.
