Steve DeBlauwe of Concrete Paving Plus caused major structural damage to my home by cutting corners, ignoring standards, and refusing responsibility. He poured concrete over old Spanish tile without bonding agent, surface prep, or rebar?only fibermesh?despite warnings. This slab was the base for all major upgrades: kitchen, flooring, cabinetry, windows. Three engineers confirmed it was dangerously inadequate and must be removed and redone. Steve falsely blames trenching unrelated to his work?it was for pool plumbing and was done before he arrived. He also falsely claims we waited three years to report issues. In reality, we contacted him multiple times within the first year and sent a formal demand letter. He ignored every call, text, and message. His shortcuts have caused over $40,000 in damage. He had one job: do it right the first time. He didn?t. Avoid this contractor.

I am filing a formal complaint against Steve DeBlauwe of Concrete Paving Plus, who was paid via Angi Pay for concrete work that has caused severe structural, financial, and emotional damage to my home. I paid him a total of $17,221.65 through Angi Pay via American Express on June 13, 2022 and August 26, 2022. The project involved raising a sunken living area so that the entire first floor of my home would be level. This concrete pour was intended to be the foundation for all other major home improvements, including the newly remodeled kitchen, professionally installed microcement flooring, and the replacement of all impact doors and windows. This was not a cosmetic project it was the literal base for everything that followed. I directly questioned Mr. DeBlauwe about the presence of Spanish tile under the slab and the need for reinforcement. He dismissed all concerns, insisting that tile removal and rebar were unnecessary, and that his team would perform all proper prep work. In reality, the job was done with no bonding agent, no surface roughening, and no rebar reinforcement only fibermesh, which is wholly inadequate for this application. His shortcuts created a ticking time bomb beneath my entire home. Now, major structural cracks have emerged, allowing water intrusion, mold development, and pest access. The professionally installed microcement flooring a major investment is now ruined. Three independent structural engineers and concrete professionals have stated the entire concrete pour must be chipped out and repoured from scratch, at a cost that will easily exceed $40,000. These experts unanimously agree that Mr. DeBlauwe cut every corner, ignored industry standards, and left me with a structurally compromised floor that has jeopardized every subsequent improvement in my home including cabinetry, appliance installation, door alignments, and more. The entire renovation is now in jeopardy. I sent a final formal demand to Mr. DeBlauwe offering him three paths forward: a refund, a redo at his expense, or an insurance claim. He never responded. I am livid. I relied on Angi to provide vetted contractors held to professional standards. Instead, I ve been left with irreparable damage and zero accountability.I am requesting the following from Angi: 1. A full investigation into Steve DeBlauwe / Concrete Paving Plus 2. I hired Steve DeBlauwe of Concrete Paving Plus in 2022 to raise a sunken living area? the base for a full home remodel. Initially, the slab looked fine. But about a year later, cracks began to appear. And, then fast forward to this past year and we now have complete failure with deep structural cracks, breaking through the microcement flooring and underlayment. Engineers have confirmed it was poured with no bonding agent, no surface prep, and no rebar?only fibermesh concrete. These shortcuts caused water intrusion, pest access, and total concrete failure. I?ve been told the only fix is to tear everything out? including the kitchen remodel, impact doors, and flooring?and start over. Repairs are estimated at $40,000+ just for the concrete portion. I paid $17,221.65 via Angi Pay and gave Steve a chance to make it right. He never responded. I have since filed complaints with DBPR, Angi, and the BBB. I wanted the job done well and done right. It wasn?t.

Steve and Ricardo are wonderful! We had an expansive job involving demo of a back wall plus interior walls, construction, raising an interior floor five inches throughout with concrete, building two raised garden boxes for the concrete pour, establishing a ramp in the front, and constructing an outdoor patio and walkway. THESE ARE THE GUYS YOU WANT! They show up. They follow through. And they know their craft well. We are thrilled with our project and looking forward to phase II and Phase III.

That is not an error. A Little pricey for the job.
