Endocrinology & Metabolism, Endocrinology - Surgery
You'd be better off going to other good surgeons who do the same procedure which is what I did for several reasons. First, Dr. Norman & the NPC makes you pay for the surgeon consult completely out-of-pocket $1750 instead of going through your insurance company. All other surgeons go through your insurance company, like they should, so I did NOT have to pay for ANY of the surgeon consults completely out of pocket. NPC makes you do all the running around to get out-of-pocket estimates, which I did not have to do with other surgeons I consulted with. NPC doesnt like you to ask questions. If you have a couple simple individual needs, they dont want to deal with you. NPC charged me more than my insurance out-of-pocket max. NPC cancelled my surgery because I asked to have my two simple requests sorted out before I took the long expensive trip. They care more about the numbers they can boast about on their web site than they do about individual patients. Total lack of empathy, professionalism, & you're just part of an assembly line of patients.

Everything went great! The doctors were very personal. They all spent time with her to put her at ease. It was an outpatient surgery.

I flew from DFW to Tampa, stayed at the Residence Inn Downtown on
11/15. I went alone, no problem. Staff at the hotel was excellent and made sure I
got on the shuttle bus to Tampa General Hospital on the morning of
11/16. Once in the intake process, things went smoothly.. Dr Lopez was
my surgeon and spent time with me answering questions before surgery.
Nurses very friendly and professional. Surgery went fine and I was out
of recovery very quickly, back at the hotel. Dr Lopez called later to
check on me - very much appreciated his follow up, Side effects of
surgery were mild and next day I flew back to DFW.
Highly recommended, best place in the world to have parathyroid surgery.

These guys do microsurgery and left a very small scar. It was out-patient and I couldn't recommend them more.

Overall, I was very happy that I traveled from New York to Tampa because of the expertise of Dr. Norman and Dr. Politz. They do this surgey all day long a few days a week. They have more experience than anybody else in this field. When you are having this surgery, you want the most experienced person. I would recommend them to anybody even if you have to travel. The peope at the Marriott were very accomodating and understanding towards all of Dr. Norman's patients.

His name is Dr. Norman. He is the inventor of the mini operation where they do a very small hole near the throat and do the remove the parathyroid. He is the world's expert in Tampa and people come from all over the world to see him for the parathyroid treatment. There are several pages of information about Dr. Norman and parathyroid on the internet. I had the thyroid surgery in 2004 but after few years I got the parathyroid. I have to see the endocrinologists regularly because it's been affecting me evidently. The Tampa General does the MRIs to find out exactly where it is. Once it is located they make a small hole near the throat and remove it. He does the operation and few hours later I can be back. It's a terrible and very bad disease.

He is an awesome doctor. His specialty is the parathyroid. He has developed a minimally invasive technique that allows you to move it in two or three hours, as opposed to several days in the hospital. He was willing to answer my questions. He has an incredible website. He's very informative and good at one-on-one discussions before and after surgery.
