Our remodel looks amazing. We highly recommend TR Hailey Contracting. Everything went according to schedule except for a few materials that didn't come in on time and that put us a few weeks behind.
person to go through what we have. Dave calls himself a “contractor” but in reality, and as expressed by many of his
subs, “doesn’t have a clue”. In fact, one of his subs “will no longer be doing business with Dave as I cannot afford
to be associated with him” my husband and I being yet another of his customers affected by Dave’s wrath of incompetency.
I guess I’ll start with the fact that we are now approaching one year for a 720 square foot garage/work shop build.
If you still feel compelled to read on – here are the highlights:
-
Incorrectly installed windows – ok doesn’t sound like a big deal – but neighbors, even our postman, observed the error while
Dave insisted they were installed correctly. It wasn’t until we explained the plans and the correct installation to Dave that he admitted the error.
-
We finally fired Dave and took over the project recently, only to find out that his electrical sub did not follow the plans
(and that’s an understatement). So far off was he that we had to engage our architect to draw up another set of
electrical plans before we could go to final electrical inspection!
-
So if you are not yet convinced – the following example should leave no room for doubt. After tearing up our front beds to install plumbing from the new garage/work shop bathroom to our existing septic, Dave “discovered” the slope wasn’t enough without installing a lift station (pump). He then explained that “in order to avoid a month of revision submittals for the lift addition and $500 in revision fees “I’m going to use my good ‘ole boys club to get this done for you”. One month later there was absolutely NO progress and MORE excuses. After we fired Dave I quickly got the revision approved – not having to use “the good ‘ole
boys club”. Dave – in case you are reading this – let me further educate you. The revision took all of 2 days and $115 at the PBC Building Dept. and 1 day and $85 at the Health Dept. Do you even KNOW how these departments work?????
In closing you are probably thinking this guy was cheap. Let me assure you he doesn’t even have that going for him. And Dave will say we made changes to the plan that delayed the project (he has a myriad of excuses and outright lies for every mistake/delay by the way). Any change to the original plans came as a direct result of an oversight by Dave – there is absolutely nothing I can say to give him the benefit of the doubt for anything that has gone wrong with this project – and I consider myself a fair person.
Again – my only motivation for the above review is to “save” you from Dave Tafel. I could go on another 5 pages – but by now you should have a good idea why NOT to hire Dave Tafel and TR Hailey for your job.
He was professional, knowledgable, listens well, and responsive to the client. As we narrowed our choices in contractors, David was always in consideration. When we asked him to refine his bid and what number we were looking to spend, he responded with a very competitive bid. We chose another, but would jump to pick David! If our choice does not work out....we will turn to David!
