Upholstering - Boat & Auto
Please stay clear of this local business. We contacted May's Marine Canvas the beginning of March 2015 to re-upholster our boat and make a new custom-fit canvas cover. I was initially impressed with the quick response to my emails and texts.
I had priced out mobile detailing companies to complete the transformation after the upholstery was installed but May's talked me into doing the detailing using his "guys" at the same time so that they could really clean out the nooks and crannies extremely well before finishing installing the upholstery. Who wants shiny new upholstery installed on moldy old, icky upholstery? Even though it was 3X the price of the mobile quote we agreed so that it would be next to "brand new" when we got it back.
We knew he wouldn't start for a few weeks, but we thought we were paying for the best so we didn't mind. April 1st we received the invoice with the assurance that he was finishing up the job. It wasn't until May 17th after many promises that it would be done "this week" that we finally got it back. His "detail" was basically a wash and wax. There was rusted hardware in every cupholder and not a single compartment had been touched (not even vacuumed for 3X the cost of the mobile quote). I was astounded he gave us the boat in that condition after paying top dollar.
Aside from the detail disaster, the upholstery work is shoddy in my opinion. Parts of the cushions are not glued to the wall of the boat, the stitching is not tight and you can see staples in one large section. To make matters worse, May's lost half the latch for our live well and scratched the windshield that we had custom made last year.
I had Corey's Detailing come to the house to re-detail the boat and Corey did a professional, complete detailing job at 1/3 the price I just paid. May's promised to reimburse me for it but never sent a check. He also promised to replace the latch and fix the upholstery but never responded to my emails.
I waited a couple of months to write this review to see if they would honor their word. So, here I am, 2 months later, no check, no latch, scratched windshield and extremely disappointed in my newly upholstered boat.
If you are in the market for boat upholstery, DO NOT use May's Marine Canvas.
